Computer Desk Set (monitor) |
(*This page has instructions for the monitor. For computer tower and keyboard instructions, see the link at the bottom of the page.) |
Plastic Canvas Pieces: - one 20 x 20 bar screen - four 5 x 20 bar screen sides - four 18 x 21 bar monitor sides - one 14 x 14 bar monitor back - one 4" circle piece (only keep the outer six bars to create a ring) |
Yarn Colors: - black - light grey - medium/charcoal grey |
Assembly of Monitor: 1. Fill in all four 5 x 20 screen side pieces with light grey yarn. 2. To create the screen, fill in the 20 x 20 bar screen piece with 3 rows of light grey. Then fill in the middle with a medium or charcoal grey yarn. Embellish the bottom of the screen with stitched on buttons or knotted buttons. 3. Stitch the four screen side pieces around the front screen piece to create a lid for the monitor box. 4. To create the sides of the monitor, cut the four 18 x 21 bar monitor side pieces so that they taper. Beginning at the top left corner, count down 7 bars and then cut in one bar. Count down another 7 bars and cut in one bar. Do the same for the other side, beginning at the top right corner. The final piece will be 18 bars across on the top and 14 bars at the bottom. See the picture to the right for a picture of the bare, cut canvas. Fill in these pieces with black yarn. 5. Fill in the 14 x 14 back monitor piece with black yarn. |
6. Sew all four side pieces around the piece that is to be the back of the monitor. Then stitch up the sides and finish all edges with a whipstitch. 7. Cut the 4" circle rim in half. Fill in the entire piece with black yarn and finish the edges with a whipstitch. Stitch the two ends together so that you create a loop. 8. Glue or stitch the black loop to the bottom of the monitor box (see picture at the bottom of the page). Put the screen lid on it to complete the monitor look. Line with felt or plastic. |

Note how the sides are cut so that the piece tapers and the monitor gets that distinctive shape. |
Look at the side profile of the monitor to see the tapering back box and the support loop underneath it. |
The monitor is essentially a box on its side. Use it to store staples, push pins, sticky notes, and more. |
Notice the buttons on the lower right corner of the monitor. Look at your own monitor for button ideas. |
The monitor is actually a box! See the picture at the bottom of the page! |
