Picket Fence Wall Basket
Plastic Canvas Pieces (7 mesh):
     - half of one 4" circular piece
     - one 29 x 16 bar rectangle (back)
     - two 3 x 45 bar narrow strips
     - eight 4 x 18 bar strips (pickets)

Yarn Colors:
    - white
     - green (for the vine)
Assembly:

1. Using a tent stitch, cover the entire half circle with white yarn.  This will become the bottom of the basket.  (*The circle was cut in half so that it lies flat against the wall.)

2.  Completely or partially fill in the back with white yarn.  (I only did the first 6 or so rows and it looks fine.)

3.  Attach the back piece to the bottom semicircle.  Make sure the back piece is attached to the flat side of your semicircle and not the round part.

4.  Cover the two 3 x 45 bar strips with white.  These strips will become the two strips that the pickets attach to.

5.  To make the pickets, cut the top of the picket strips to a point (see
picture).  Using a tent stitch, fill them in with white.

6.  Lay the two 3 x 45 bar strips down parallel to each other horizontally, about an inch or so apart.  Stitch or hot glue the pickets onto the bars, straddling the pickets over both bars.  Look at the completed project on top of the page for reference.  Lay out the pickets and continue attaching them to your two strips.
Here you can see the semicircle bottom piece and curved fencing around it.
This is the partially stitched back of the basket.

6.  To attach the fencing to the back and bottom pieces, stitch the fencing support strips to the back piece.  Wrap the fencing around the circumference of the semicirle, hot gluing or stitching where needed.  Then attach the two support bars on the other side of the back piece.

7.  Embellish with a bit of green stitching that looks like a vine on a few pickets.  Hot glue ribbon roses onto the vines.
Gift Ideas:

- Fill with seed packets and gardening gloves for a gardener or house warming present.

- Fill with small baby toys and other baby goods.  The basket, other than being a beautiful gift, is a great decoration for the baby's room.

- Great for tea parties or other Victorian themes.  Fill with tea bags, cookies, etc.
Home Decoration Ideas:

- Use in a powder room.  Fill with soap or rolled washclothes.

- Make several and hang them in a cluster.

- Use near a phone to hold paper, pencils, and small address books.

- Put near a door and use it to keep your keys in.
More Ideas:

- Make a corner unit by only using a quarter of a circle.  (You may want to use a larger circle than a 4".)  This will require two back pieces, but the pickets will be made the same way.  Make your support strips the circumference of your quarter circle.  Then make enough pickets to cover the strips.

(*NOTE: Double check that your back piece and support strips are the right size for your circle, because materials may vary in size and scale.)
