Plastic Canvas Pieces (7 mesh):

-three 20 x 20 squares

The idea here is to use scrap pieces, so modify the dimensions as necessary.  The important idea here is that the pieces are squares.  The size can be reduced (or enlarged) as necessary.  Don't be afraid to mix and match plastic canvas colors either!
Yarn Colors:

Anything you have!

The piece uses little bits of yarn, so use up any scraps you have.  To keep it attractive, consider colors schemes, such as pastels or a monochromatic look.
Assembly:

1.Fill in the middle of each of the three squares with a woven stitch.  (
Click here for a diagram of the woven stitch.)  Using the woven stitch, use one color of yarn and go back and forth (with long stitches) across the center of the square.  With your second color of yarn, weave over and under the stitches of your first color.  Come up through a plastic canvas hole, weave over and under the stitches of your first color, and then go into a hole.  Come up through the canvas on the next hole, weave, and continue the process.  Think of it like loom work!

2. Stitch a small border around the center weaving to finish off the panels.  Use a contrasting color for interest.

3. Stitch the panels together along the edges to create hinges.  The final piece should be a trifold.

4. Hot glue (or stitch) paper clips to the back of each panel to hold notes.
Additional Ideas:

For a monocromatic scheme, try using monocromatic, multivalue yarn (the kind that has light, medium, and dark shades of one color).  Weave the multivalue yarn for a great, subtle look!
