OTHER WORLDS #3: SUSPICIONS, PART TWO

Next morning, dawned bright and sunny, which did not reflect the inner turmoil in the lives of Bay City's inhabitants:

"Leaving town? " said Tito, "What are you talking about, Peaches? You can't leave! Not now!"

"I've got to get out of Bay City!" said Remy, stuffing her possessions into a backpack.

"Just when you've got Nick Hudson on the hook?"

"I don't care about that!"

"How can you not care about the biggest sucker we've ever met?" said Tito, "I'm not talking about scamming a few measley hundreds, Peaches! Nick Hudson has millions for the taking! Millions! Once we're finished with him, you'll be able to go anywhere you want - First Class all the way! C'mon Peaches, you can't let me down now!"

"Well, Okay." said Remy, "I'll stay - for a while." Almost under her breath, she added, "Unless she finds me again-"

Over at BCUH, Sofia found Matthew gazing through the nursery window, with a moonstruck expression.

"Matt? Paulina told me you were here." she said, "So, Lila had her baby."

"That's my daughter, right there." said Mattew, pointing, "Isn't she beautiful?"

Privately, Sofia though the baby looked like a squashed tomato, but she politely echoed: "Beautiful!"

The nurse took the baby out of her crib: "Feeding time." she said.

"I can't miss that!" said Matthew, and followed her to Lila's room, with Sofia trailing behind.

"How's Mama's liddle Angel Girl?" cooed Lila, taking the baby in her arms, "She's jist peh'fect - yes, she is!"

She opened her negligee and gave the baby her breast. Matthew gazed, enraptured; Sofia looked uncomfortable.

"So - have you decided on a name, yet?" she asked.

"Jasmine!" said Lila, "'Cause she's jist as sweet an' pretty as a flowah - yes, she is!"

Sofia rolled her eyes. That was the sort of name Scarlett - er, Lila - would choose!

"Jasmine Cory!" said Matthew, "I like that!"

"That taped confession is enough to put Grant behind bars, right?" said Cindy.

"Yeah - as long as it's backed up by your testimony." said Joe.

"Oh?"

"The tape's only admissable if you testify that you knew the conversation was bein' taped." Said Joe, "Otherwise, it gets thrown out by the judge, and we got nothin'."

Cindy left Joe's office in a thoughtful mood.

Felicia opened the door of her suite and almost fell over the man lying prone across her threshold.

"What on earth -?" As he sat up, she recognized him. "You! You're that driver, from last night!"

"Am now homeless, because of you, Beautiful Lady!" said Sergei.

"Thank you for coming with me, Victoria." said Donna, as they entered Marley's house. They had watched until they saw her leave. "I'd be afraid to come back here by myself."

"This place gives me the creeps!" said Vicky, wrapping her arms around her torso. "Let's pack your stuff and get out of here, before Marley comes back!"

"Not until I see what's in the basement." said Donna, "Marley was building something down there - something that involved power tools! She said it was - for you!"

Donna opened the basement door, switched on the light, and started downstairs.

"OH MY GOD!"

"What?" Vicky hurried after her mother. When she saw what was in the basement, she stood there, speechless, for a long moment.

"A cell?" Vicky said at last. "Marley built a cell? What was she planning to do - lock me up?"

"She wants Jake back." said Donna.

"Well, at least it has an en suite bathroom!" said Vicky. (Where had Marley learned to be a plumber?)

"Let's go!" said Donna, "Never mind my clothes! I can buy new ones! I just want to get out of here!"

"I guess I'm okay with the fact that you had sex with my brother." said Cameron.

"That's good." said Amanda, "Because we have a problem: I'm pregnant!"

****

"I'd better get to the airport." said Zack, " Lama Tensing Norgay is arriving from Tibet. Getting him to come here is a real coup!"

"I still don't know why you want some flea-bitten holy man hanging around the place." said Jordan Stark.

"Honestly, Jordan - sometimes I think you don't take the Lumina Foundation's work seriously!"

"Oh, I'm very serious!"

****

"Pregnant?" said Gary, "Is it mine - or Cameron's?"

"I don't know!" said Josie, "What difference does it make?"

"What difference?" said Gary, "How can I face my brother, knowing that Our son is really - His son?"

"The important thing is - it's You that I love, Gary!"
