SO SWEET AS MAGIC, PART TWELVE
Joe received an unexpected visitor. "Paulina!"
"Surprised to see me? I had to come down here to make a statement, and I wanted to see you where you belong - behind bars!"
"Paulina, you gotta listen! I only did it because I love you so much!"
"You call that 'love'? Don't make me laugh!" said Paulina.
"If you tell the BOW you don't wanna press charges, they'll go easy on me!"
"Are you joking? I'm their star witness!"
"Paulina, I'm your husband!" he said.
"You were never that! What you were was a rapist."
"I never -!"
"You violated me, and you made me think I liked it! I never thought I could hate anyone, but I hate you, Joe Carlino! I just hope you get gang-banged in the penitentiary! Maybe then you'll know how I feel!"
"Paulina, we've got a son! What about Dante?"
"Fortunately, he's young enough to forget all about you. I'll tell him you're dead - because as far as I'm concerned, you are!"

Meanwhile, Jordan Stark was pursuing his plan to put Amalie's soul into Amanda's body. Finding Amanda alone, he quickly put her into a trance. (Not difficult, as she's stunned anyway :-D)
"Amalie!" he said, "Enter this vessel! Live again!"
"J- Jordan?" she said, with a faint French accent, "Is it truly you?"
"Yes, My Beloved! We two can be united at last, in the bodies of these insipid idiots."
"But - 'ow?"
"Never mind that now. We can only have a few moments together, at present. But soon, we will be together for eternity."
'Amalie's' gaze passed around the room, then came to rest on the piano.
"What a strange spinet." she remarked.
"Play for me, as you used to do." Stark urged.
She sat down at the keyboard and played the minuet. As the tinkling notes filled the air, Stark sighed with pleasure.
"Amanda!" Rachel's voice shocked Amanda out of her trance.
"OH!" Stark ducked out of sight as Rachel entered the room.
"Since when do you play the piano?"
"I - don't." said Amanda, looking down at her hands, on the keyboard.

Vicky had asked Marly to come to the cottage.
"Look, Marly," she said, "I know that you - "
Just then, Jake came home.
"Vicky, I've just been with Paulina." he said. " She's willing to give us another chance, now that Joe the Jerk's where he belongs. So I need you to give me a divorce."
"WHAT?" said Marly.
"I kind of thought you would, when I read about Joe in this morning's Herald." said Vicky, "I'll help you pack."
"You can't be serious!" cried Marly. "You're breaking up your marriage just like that?"
"Jake and I settled for each other because we couldn't have the ones we really want." said Vicky, "If Jake can get back with Paulina, more power to him!"
"No hard feelings?" said Jake.
"Of course not!" said Vicky, "If Ryan turned up alive, I'd divorce you so fast -!"
"I can't believe I'm hearing this!" said Marly, "Don't you two have any respect for the marriage vow?"
Jake and Vicky looked at each other. "It's not like it's the first time either of us has gotten a divorce." Jake pointed out.
"Well, what about the children?" said Marly, "Don't you think Steven and Kirkland will be terribly upset?"
"It's not as though they'll never see me again." said Jake, "I'll still spend time with them."
"Besides, they like Paulina." said Vicky.
"You can't get divorced!" said Marly, "You just can't!"
Donna appeared at the door of her room. "What's all the yelling?" she said, "You woke me up."
"Donna!" cried Vicky, "You're - standing!"
Donna looked down at her feet, then had to clutch the doorframe for support. "OH!"
Jake hurried to her side. "Hang on to me." he said, "Can you take a step? That's it! Now another - Good! Just two more - one, two - There!"
Donna sank down onto the sofa.
"Oh my goodness!" she said, "I can walk!"
"The doctors said you could." said Vicky, "I guess all you needed to do was forget you were supposed to be paralysed."
"The boys are gonna flip." said Jake.
"I hope that will make up for the bad news." said Marly acidly.
"Bad news?" said Donna.
"Jake and I are getting a divorce." said Vicky, "He's going back to Paulina."
"Oh. Well, she is the great love of his life, after all." said Donna, placidly.
"Don't you care?" Marly demanded.
"What Victoria and Jake decide to do is their business, not mine." said Donna, "Or yours, Darling."
"So, where should I send your mail?" said Vicky, "Will you be moving in with Paulina?"
"Not just yet." said Jake, "I'll take a suite at the Love Towers for the time being."
Marly's ears perked up; maybe she still had a chance.
To be continued.
