Holding the line!

The Mordian Iron Guard, renown for their close order drills and disciplined firing fussilades.
The Doctrines of the 13th Cadian Rifles!

Choosing Doctrines for an Imperial guard army is something of an novelty. You have two options: Either field an straight forward Guard force with acces to all units and vehicles, or you can opt to use Doctrines, which will restrict the unit choices drastically, but allow you to use special equipment or skills and drills to help improve the prowess of your force.

My army uses the standard Cadian Doctrines. Please note that while normal armies may only have five Doctrines in total, some Regiments have long traditions and an impressive record, thus allowed to use more Doctrines.

1. Grenadiers. The regiment comes from an world where the best Imperial Guard recruits are combined into elite formations and receive superior training that is the equal of Storm troopers. The regiment may include 0-3 Storm Trooper squads as Troops. These Storm Trooper squads may not Deep Strike or Infiltrate.

2. Sanctioned Psykers. These sombre and solitary individuals are able to use their psychic powers to advise the senior officers of their regiment. They can augment the officer's abilty to command, protect him from psychic attacks or, in the direst circumstances, fire bolts of lightning from their hands.

3. Special Weapon squads. The Cadian Shock Troops are frequently called upon to assault formidable positions or to defend against overwhelming odds. To improve their chances they have learned to group men with specialist weapon skills in support units. These units perform tasks such as destroying bunkers, hunting tanks, blowing up bridges and so on.

4. Storm Trooper squads. Storm Troopers are trained by the Schola Progenium to perform operations and spearhead assaults. The special treatment and elite status given to Storm Troopers causes a certain amount of rancour amongst regular Guardsmen and has earned them a variety of colourful and insulting nicknames, such as 'Glory Boys' and 'Big Toy Soldiers'.

5. Iron Discipline. On many worlds of the Imperium, nobles are raised from birth to be officers. They have an air of confidence and authority that keeps their troops fighting to the last man.

6. Sharpshooters. Sometimes war has been a way of life for successive generations of the regiment, and consequently they are formidable marksmen, having undergone militairy training from an early age.

7. Conscript Platoons. The Cadian Youth Armies are teenage cadets. They spend much of their time training at a castellum in the wilderness, drilling under the supervision of Shock troopers and fighting mock battles with other youth armies. This prepares them superbly for life in the Shock Troop regiments. There is no hesitation in testing the youth armies in the crucible of battle and every Cadet yearns to be recognised for his courage and recruited into the Shock Troops. Serving Shock Troops sometimes refer to the Youth Armies as 'Whiteshields' because of the probationary Cadian badge they wear.
