| Yes, Another Teen Movie by Jessica Meng |

| As with most movie genres, the Adolescent Genre is flexible and changes to adapt to the times. In order to create and possess any meaning to contemporary audiences, movies, especially those that target teen audiences, must keep up to date with current issues and problems. Although movies of the Coming of Age Genre attempt to address universal emotions that occur despite the passage of time, the world of the films must be different in order for viewers to relate. Directed at teenagers of the 1950's, "Rebel" dealt with issues and problems from the 50's. On the same token, aimed at the youth of 2000, "Girlfight" focuses on other issues such as financial status and gender. Created as a classic film, "Rebel" and the subject matter that it covers is more general and survives the tests of time. On the contrary, "Girlfight" is more case specific and less likely to endure the newer changes taking place in society and culture. |
