We are Mieke and Menno. We are two students from The Netherlands. Mieke studies cultural antropology and I study medicine, both in a city in the east, called Nijmegen. In the summer of 2000 we decided to stop our study, temporary, to make a world trip. We thought this was the right time to leave western society, since weŽre not bound to a family, a house, a job and other things you should have. We now have the time, the only problem is (therefor) of course the money (when youŽve got the money, most people donŽnt have the time).
That was the first thing to sort out, although we already knew that we would go anyway. We checked our bank accounts and found out that we were not even half the way. That meant that we would have to work a lot, and of course we have our study to complete. IŽm in my fourth year now, medicine is six years, Mieke is in her third (of four). Although many students in the Netherlands complain about how little money they get and how little time they have next to there study, we donŽnt agree with them.
We find enough time to work next to our study and we don`t have for us useless moneyconsuming products like mobile telephones and cars. So with spending as little money as possible and with working as much as possible we manage to save enough money for our trip.
