Rushmore Memorial National Park
Mount Rushmore National Memorial The memorial was designed by the American sculptor Gutzon Borglum. It took six and a half years, on and off, between 1927 and 1941. Mostly by out of work miners, at the time of the great depression. The sculptor built a 1-to-12-inch model to work from. 450,000 tons of granite was removed from the mountain. The largest work of art on earth,the noses are 20 feet long, each mouth is 18 feet wide, and each eye 11 feet across!
Zion National Park
Human use of the Zion National Park landscape dates back to at least 6,000 B.C.In 1847, Brigham Young led members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) to came to Utah Territory. In 1863, Issac Behunin built the first log cabin in Zion Canyon, followed by more homesteaders. In 1919, a Congressional bill designating Zion National Park was signed into law.
