Hardcore & Gabber

Hardcore is powerful music. Not many other types of music out there can make you feel the way Hardcore does. The speed, the energy, it is found no where else or represented just as strongly in the electronic music world as it is found in Hardcore. Hardcore is music that is fast, hard, and harsh. The main identifying characteristic of hardcore is the fast 4/4 beat. Many consider "Hardcore" to be real fast, lets say 185bpm and up. There are many styles of Hardcore around, such as Happy Hardcore, Speedcore, New Style, Hardstyle, and of course, Gabber. Gabber seems to be a pretty legitimate genre. Gabber is usually slower than your ideal hardcore, and therefore can use lower bass frequencies due to the longer intervals between beats. Gabber are characterized by the slower 4/4 beat, and almost every gabber tune will use the distorted analogue bass. Tunes tend to sound anthemic, like marches (holocaust march comes to mind) buzzing synths are used copiously. Gabber is also a term often associated with people who listen to gabber(i.e. "Holland has a lot of gabbers"). Happy Hardcore is very established and has been around for ages. For those of you that don't like the at times overbearing darkness of hardcore, go get some happy hardcore. It is sample heavy, nixing piano, breakbeats, and their trademark synths, happy hardcore is that kind of music that can bring a smile to your face on command. There are many that do not like happy hardcore, most notably the hardcore peeps. It *is* somewhat cheezy, but its really not bad at al. Another aforementioned sub-genre would be Speedcore. This is the type music that induces moshing because its too damn fast to dance to. Listen and quite certainly your heart rate will increase. It is VERY fast (purists don't consider anything below 280bpm speedcore). Many times, death metal sounds will be incorporated in speedcore, and sometimes some type of strange phrase or words often repeated. I know a few people that cannot take speedcore too long, its not exactly for everyone. If you don't get what speedcore is about, you really need to hear it on a nice sound system. Well, that's all for now, until later, enjoy this page and check out some hardcore for yourself.
