House, I believe, is the oldest form of "techno" around, and also the most widespread. House is said to have its roots in Chicago. There are many who claim to have started it, but no one really knows who did in fact first create it. There are some who get more credit than others, such as the “Godfather of House”, Farley Jackmaster Funk. He takes some credit to starting house, but he does credit the name "house" to someone else. This other person remains unnamed. Others credited with house’s growth are DJ’s like Juan Atkins, Freddy "Flashin" Fowlkes, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Lil’ Louis Vega, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Doc Martin, Oscar G, & Ralph Falcon are all important contributers to the house music scene. House is important because it revolutionized the music scene as we know it. House is basically neo-disco, sometimes with heavy latin influences. Yet, if this is true, then house didn’t start at any given place, it evolved from disco. House predominates the club scene, and in certain places the rave scene, although Trance has now taken that position. House is heard nearly everywhere, and although it isn't always good house, it's house, so it can't be that bad. For some reason, as with Trance, all kinds of variations of House exist. Some include Deep House, Latin House, Hard House, Tech-House, Progressive House, Disco House, Housey Breakcore, Trancy Housecore, and my favorite, Percussive Disco Funkadelic Housecore (Pure House, True House), and many more. Although I did make a few of those names up, they do correspond to some type of House. There are also variations of the variations, so the "possibilities" are endless. I prefer plain ol' true, disco-ey, House. You may like progressive House, you may like Tech-House, who knows? One must simply experiment and see what their preference is.
If you would like to listen to some great House, here is where you can start. Go out and purchase some recordings from some of the best DJ's and producers alive today, because, as we all know, House Is Dopeness:
