A different family.

Alfred Barnett aged 18, came in May 1858 on the Suffolk with Charlotte Barnett 50, Janet Barnet 17, Olive Barnett 18, Emma Barnett 10 and Eliza Barnett 8.

Good afternoon
I am the great granddaughter of Alfred and Laura. There were actually 12 Barnett children born to this couple.
Our family history has him arriving with his father Thomas Barnett who was married to Jane nee Wingfield. There is some query over surnames as it is possible they were originally Parson.
He was born in London on 11/4/1844 and died in Dunolly in October 1904/ Report in the Dunolly paper.
He married Laura Elizabeth Walker on the 5 Mar 1874 at Dunolly district of Avoca. Written consent of David Walker (father of the bride), married by Henry Downes Smith, Minister of the Gospel.
Children were Alfred, Clement, Arthur, William, Walter (my grandfather), Mabel, Elsie, Henry, Ellen, Ruth, Laura, and Raymond.

I have just located Thomas Barnett's photo on the State Library of Victoria Site. He is photographed among the pioneers and leading citizens of Dunolly.
Grand daughter Nell, in a note signed 'Aunty Nell', wrote "My grand father's name was Thomas and he was 86 when he died (in 1897). Father was the only son, he had two sisters, one was called Mirriam and the other became Mrs Yates. The family came to Adelaide when Father was 7 years old (about 1851)".

Jane Barnett died aged 70, 1813 - 1883 #1084 at Dunolly, daughter of Mary and James Swingfield.

John Henry YATES was my gr-gandfather. My first record of John was when he married my gr-grandmother Marian BARNETT in Dunolly in 1868. Marian was the daughter of Thomas BARNETT, a very respected pioneer in the Dunnoly area who was the recipient of an impressive obituary in a local paper when he died in 1897 in Dunolly. John Henry YATES was a partner & fellow shareholder in many gold mining ventures, including the fabulous Queen's Birhday Mine. James Flett in his book ":Dunolly" said that both BARNETT & YATES died rich men.
