Earliest records from Germany show that John Freytag married Anna Catherina Hollmann 19.04.1756. Recorded in the Schessel Church, near Lauenbruck on the road to Hanover. No mention of birth or death dates. They had 2 Children Margaretta b 1757 and Hans Casper b 1760. Hans Casper married (1788) Sophia Margaretta Bellmann and had 7 children. The Australian lineage is descended from the son of the 4th child, Hans Hinrich b 1796 m 1821 to Christina Margaretta Rosenbruck (b1803). They had 7 boys. 3 boys went to USA and settled in Iowa. The 4th son Peter went to England where he anglised his name to Friday and travelled to Australia.c 1857.

Peter Friday (nee Freytag or Freitag) arrived Australia c 1857 aged 24. Worked on goldfields for some time, then at Preston Station (Bonnie Doon/Eildon area).
At Preston Station he met Martha Chater (born 1843) who was also working there. He wed 5 May 1862 to Martha Chater, the daughter of convict Mary Ann Chater (nee Huddleston, alias Jones) and William Chater. William born c 1814, was the son of William Chater, a soldier who arrived in the colony c1824. They were married by a travelling parson in Mansfield. Peter selected land and was granted title (1871) to 640 acres at Bonnie Doon.

My grand-father, 6th child of Peter Friday (Freytag) and Martha nee Chater, was Francis Henry Friday. He was born at Bonnie Doon 30.10.1874 and married Eva Jane Griffiths at Mansfield on 24.10.1900. Their property 'Arcadia' was excised from Mt. Battery Station. They had 9 children. My father Peter Griffith Friday was the eldest, born 29.07.1901. A record of F.H.Friday and Eva Griffiths descendants was compiled by Audrey Davidson in 2000 to commemorate their 100th wedding anniversary. A copy was donated to the Mansfield Historical Association.
