A different Robert Punshon died in the quarter to Sept 1849 in the District of Houghton le Spring Vol 24 page 143, County Durham
Robert Punshon wed 28 Jan 1839 to Mary Davison. He was an Engineman

I have found your website with detailed information about Punshons who emigrated. I am particularly interested in Mary Punshon nee Davidson who went to Australia in 1852. She is linked through marriage with my paternal great grandmother Jane Ann Punshon.

I note that you say that Mary's husband Robert Punshon died in Houghton le Spring in 1849. In fact I have a copy of his death certificate which shows that he died in Gateshead, County Durham on 21 September 1851, aged 50. He was an Engineman. Thought you would wish to know this to update your records.

Incidentally the Davidson name is often listed in records such as censuses, as Davison. This often causes problems with searches. Even Mary and Robert's marriage certificate (28 January 1839) has her recorded as Davison.

Robert Punshon, Engineman, died in Low Fell, Gateshead on 21 September 1851 of Asthma and diarrhoea. He was an Engineman. He was aged 50 at death, which means that he was born in 1801. George Punshon, living in Bottle Bank, was present at his death.
