Edward Austin, born 15 Sep 1824, and Harriett Young, born 28 Oct 1824, were married at the Registry Office, Newington, Surrey on 13 July 1847. In Australia their children married into the Drysdale, Sargison, Toplis, Roughead, Littlejohn, Sullivan and Smith families.

Our cousins in UK have traced the family back to John Yonge in Bristol 1330 and includes Thomas Yonge 1370 Burgess, Sherriff and Mayor of Bristol

Sir John Yonge b 1410 Sheriff of Bristol 1454, Lord Mayor of London 1460, knighted 1471 during the Wars of the Roses

John Young b 1451 had a sister who married Sir John Parr whose brother William was grandfather of Queen Catherine Parr, wife of King Henry VIII

John Young b1500 Bailiff of the Barony of Lewes 1559

Nicholas Yonge b 1530 bought the Manor of Polling - house, farm and mill.

The Young family settled in Odiham and Greywell (pronounced Gruel) in Hampshire

The 1841 and 1851 Census lists the family as Mary, James, John, Harriett and Henry.

Elizabeth is Harriet's older sister.
Henry PRINCE wed Elizabeth YOUNG in the December quarter of 1841 in Newington, and they took over the care of Jessie Austin after her Austin grandparents grew old - both died in 1870.

Henry became a prosperous founder and later the family moved to Wimbleton, then an elegant village. Henry Prince cast the bronze statue of Prince Albert for the Albert Memorial


James Young is described as a 'Cabinet Maker' when his daughter Harriett Young and Edward Austin were married at the Registry Office, Newington, Surrey on 13 July 1847. Edward's father is called a 'Bricklayer', and Edward is described as an 'Oilman'. By 31 March 1851, Edward has progressed to an 'Oilman employing one boy'.
Their first child, Jessie Sarah born 1848, was left with her grandparents when the couple left London in July 1852 on the Emily with their two younger daughters, Alice Mary born 18 Nov 1949 and Kate Elizabeth born July 1851. They disembarked at Port Phillip on 21 Oct 1852.
Kate died on 17 Jan 1853 and Emily Jane was born on 22 Dec 1853. The family arrived in Hobart, Tasmania on the schooner Eucalyptus on 1 Nov 1854 and Edward found work in Hobart.
Elizabeth Lucy was born 14 Jan 1856 and she was followed by five brothers, John Edward 28 Nov 1857, Francis William 22 Jan 1860, James Henry Prince 3 Feb 1863, William Drewery 12 Apr 1865 and Charles Philip 6 July 1867 who died of convulsions induced by toxins, aged 10 on 7 June 1877.
Harriett died in Esperance on 27 May 1895 aged 71, the death Certificate shows her death was caused by Dropsy, and the Informant was her grandson, Walter Drysdale.
