Granges
Deer Creek Grange was one of oldest active Grange in Mercer County.  The grange was organized in 1874.  They used the same hall up until the day it closed.  The Grange initiated candidates every night in its early meetings with a fee of $3.00 for men and $0.50 for women.  In March 1877, the Grange received its first request for aid and after much discussion sent $0.50 for relief.  As all granges, this one discussed many pertinent questions of the time.  For example: It is the duty of the farmers to educate their children equal to professionals; is the use of farm machinery beneficial to the farm community.  In 1960, a member of Deer Creek Grange was appointed by Governor Lawrence to the unemployment compensation board of Pennsylvania.  Deer Creek was active in most Pomona projects, participates in the Pomona Fair and is usually always represented at Pomona meetings.  Deek Creek Grange is now closed and most of their members joined New Vernon Grange.
