As opening games go, not bad at all....the usual drab, dreary draws seemed a thing of the past as Belgium scored after 43 minutes through Bart Goor after a mistake by Roland Nilsson, and, following a clear handball, amid mounting home hysteria, Emile Mpenza smashed in a second a minute after the restart....Then, just seven minutes later, a comedy goalie (in this case Fillip de Wilde) handed Sweden a lifeline, treading on the ball on the edge of his six-yard box and allowing Johan Mjallby to run it in.....And that, pretty much, was that, apart from Freddie Ljungberg being clean through with just De Wilde to beat...and shooting tamely at his legs.......Oh, and the opening ceremony was drug-influenced as per usual... |
