                     What Matters

The length of the hair on your head's not important,
Nor even of that on your chin,
And I'd hasten to add (even though it sounds mad!)
That what really counts is within.

Material possessions (as nice as they are)
Don't actually matter a damn,
And the clothes that you wear (like the length of your hair)
Are just dressing mutton as lamb.

We chase after fast cars and houses and wealth
And all the new film stars and bands.
But when will we learn that the money we earn
So often leaves blood on our hands?

So what really matters when all's said and done?
(What's the gospel according to me?)
Just to truthfully say at the end of the day
That you were the best man you could be.....
