EDUCATION FUND
Due to the success of the Lesiraa Project, 97% of their Std VII pupils qualified to go to secondary school in 2007.  However, because pupils have to pay for their secondary education, this means that many of the Lesiraa pupils who should be going to secondary school will not be able to afford to go, (nationally, only 5% of children in Tanzania go through their secondary education).

The Meserani Education Fund will be a trust fund set up by the Meserani Project, and will allow the staff at Lesiraa School and Meserani School to select a number of pupils each year who cannot afford to pay for their secondary school fees, but who in their opinion most deserve the opportunity.  These pupils will be given a grant of approximately 321,000 Tanzanian Shillings (£175) which will pay their fees for a year, plus uniform, transport and equipment.  If the pupils are successul during that year, then we will look to continue funding their attendance at secondary school.
A committee of ten people from Tanzania has been set up to select these pupils:
Barry Bale (BJ) - Owner of Meserani Snake Park.
Mwlelias Levaani - Principal Teacher, Lesiraa School.
Mbaga - Principal Teacher, Meserani Juu School.
Longokwa Sarapo - Chairman, Meserani Juu.
Zakayo Ole Memiri Laizer (Zac) - Well known to the Acklam Grange pupils who visit Africa.
Naitopuaki Memiri Laiser - (Nai) - Secretary, Meserani Snake Park, and also well known to the Acklam Grange pupils who visit Africa.
Lothi - Meserani Snake Park Guide.
Mesalyeki - Meserani Snake Park.
Engigwana - Lesiraa Village Elder.
Loishiye - Chairman, Lesiraa Village.

Following the national school examinations in Tanzania, that took place in September 2008, eight pupils have been selected to receive grants to attend Einoti Secondary School, starting in January 2009.  Assuming that these eight pupils successfully complete their first year at Einoti School, the Meserani Education Fund will continue to fund them for their full four years.  The nine pupils are:
Paulina Lobanguti
Meporoo Sumu
Jackson Sikorei
Lembris Loisulie
Lea Lucas
Bwanashamba Pusindawa
Naurei Levaani
Ally Ntala
Losieku Lorian

A new and exciting possible extension to this idea, is to fund a pupil to attend the Maasai Girls' Boarding School, at Monduli, near Arusha.  This is one of the top schools in the country, and would provide a pupil who shows outstanding potential with the chance to gain a top class education, with potential life-changing opportunities.  Click
