Following the successful visit to Lesiraa School by Acklam Grange pupils in July 2007, they spent some time visiting other schools in the area. It was following a bumpy overland drive through the bushland that they first came across Meserani School. You can see from the faces of the Acklam Grange pupils below how what they saw affected them.
The classrooms at Meserani School had in excess of 100 pupils crammed into them.
Some of the classrooms had to cater for two separate groups of pupils, so they had to be partitioned off by a sheet of corrugated sheet iron.
Their only major educational resource was a blackboard.
We interacted with the pupils in their lessons, presented the school with some educational resources and sports equipment, and made a vow that when we returned to the U.K. we would take on the task of providing Meserani School with decent classrooms, and much-needed resources and equipment.
The Meserani Project evolved from this visit, and was launched back in the U.K. in September 2007. Building work is expected to start in January 2008. |
