Emotional intelligence has five characteristics to it. They are mood management, empathy, self awareness, managing relationships, and self motivation. ("Emotional Intelligence"). Each of these roles makes up the word emotional intelligence. To me the word is saying that when you are willing to do something for yourself you are going to succeed at it, as if you were forced to do something you might do alright at it, not to the best of your ability. It is also saying that your emotional intelligence isn't based upon your GPA, but on how you view things and how emotionally motivated you are. My favorite quote from this article is "Emotional Intelligence has proven a better predictor of future success than traditional methods like the GPA, IQ, and standardized test scores."("Emotional Intelligence.") I like this quote because it means a lot to me that people realize that it is not only test scores and grades that help you get by in this world; it is the whole package of being street smart, and also having a good family background. |
