O Marie

Quotation body.

for Erin
CHORUS
O Marie, I love you,
I've lit a candle for you,
May you see your way more clearly by its light.

Hard road that you've taken
Those easy choices that you're makin',
And I hope you get some sleep tonight.

We met in an office,
Neither of us famous,
Both of us respected in most minds but our own.

She stayed with a man she hated,
I'd betrayed the girl I dated,
(we could have been related,)
I thought it showed courage when she chose to be alone. (CHORUS)

We married at an altar,
She cried and did not falter,
We waited for the honeymoon to end to show our ills.

Loving made her sick and tearful,
Rejection made me fearful,
She sure gave me an earful,
I didn't know I didn't have the self respect to pay the bills. (CHORUS)

We tried hurting our feelings,
We tried hypnotic healings,
I knew if we kept trying we'd learn to close old wounds somehow.

But she met someone at a wedding,
He had what she was wanting,
Distance kept her waiting,
'Till we took our anniversary trip and on it she broke her sacred vow. (CHORUS)

I thank her for her smile
That shone on me awhile.
I thank her for the heartbreak that's helped me heal.

I ask forgiveness for my self hate,
For acting like an ingrate,
For finding insight too late.
I cry, as her husband I might die for her but divorce is all she needs. (CHORUS)

If you want to marry,
Without committing hari-kari,
Get yourselves a therapist accredited by AAMFT.

Share your family histories,
Reveal old wounds and miseries,
Learn to say "self love" with a straight face or you'll practice it like me.

O Marie, I love you,
I've lit a candle for you...
