The NotCommon Record Showcase - Friday the 13th -
The Choppin' Block

Friday the 13th at The Choppin Block for The NotCommon Record Showcase featuring; Kevorkians Angels, Phantom Limb, Abhorred, Raising Kubrick and special added Metal Blade recording artists,
CATTLE DECAPITATION.

That's right, if you had listened to Mike Hsu's Harder Faster on Thursday night August 12th, you would know that his special guests were Cattle Decapitation live in the AAF studios. Well that's where it began; the chance meeting, the invite to the Choppin' Block which led to Cattle Decapitation playing live as headlining special guests. If you missed it, well all I can tell you is to never miss Harder Faster every Monday thru Friday from 11pm to midnight on WAAF 107.3FM, you never know what will happen. So with an already awesomely diverse metal lineup the night gets going with Raising Kubrick. Hot off their debut full length from NotCommon Records, The Important Thing Is Moral Choice, the metal was off to a triumphant beginning. Raising Kubrick's lead vox, Sarah, was incredible. The band was so energetic and tight sounding that it sent shivers up my spine. Nice to have a chick that can growl like death has taken over and then scream with such precision. Next up are the boys from Abhorred. They have been making quite a name for themselves and there is no doubt as to why. Right from the first song you know that this is another New England metal band destined to hit the National scene in no time. John, lead vocals, must have an extra large set of lungs, I mean his sound is as though he was bred from Napalm Death. The whole band totally has that metal appeal and quality sound to blow up the speakers as well as the roof right off the building. Abhorred are recording their first full length due out in September on NotCommon Records and you can be sure I'll be first in line to pick it up. Holy Crap, here comes Phantom Limb. Now some may say that Ryan, lead vocals/guitars, is the Spawn of Satan or even Satan's Dad, and I'll have to agree either way. Their set included tracks from their newly released full length, Veins Of Unholy Capacity and I'll just say, "Is It live or Memorex." Kamil, drummer extraordinare, has to be one of the hardest hitting drummers out there and Kevin, bassist, rounds out the evilness of Phantom Limb. I was right up front headbanging away with every beat, they totally have that way about them. Still up is Kevorkians Angels. Here it is, thrash meets punk meets speed/noise metal. All of those contingents make for a sick band. They added some new songs to their set that will no doubtly be on their follow up to The Sound of Modern Hate, due out this fall. They always put on a great set and tonight was a step up to greatness. Kevorkians Angels have such an aggression about them that it makes the whole crowd feel it and go wild. Ok still in amazement and excitement to have pulled it off, Cattle Decapitation starts setting up their gear. Also in the house were label mates, The Black Dahlia Murder, to show their bro's support. Then CD begins with Humanure, the title track to their recently released full length from Metal Blade records. I can say that Cattle Decapitation is as tight-sounding as their cd and as Metal as it gets. Every song captivated the audience as if it was the birth of a baby calf happening right in front of their eyes. Troy, Travis, Josh, and Mike will be on the top of my best metal band list for jumping on a bill last minute for "FUN"!! Also huge props for making history at The Choppin' Block in Boston. Big thanks to Pete of Sommerville for housing the Cattle Decapitation boys while in town. Last but not least, the largest THANK YOU in the world to Mike Hsu of Harder Faster for introducing me to CD. Make sure you support metal by tuning in every Monday thru Friday 11pm to midnight on 107.3fm WAAF. For more metal check out my Radio edition of Headbangers Ball on 91.5FM WMFO every Tuesday noon-4pm.
