January, 1996
3:  Eddie Firmani is named the first MetroStars Head Coach.
3:  Tony Meola is named the MetroStars second allocated player.
30: Ralph Perez is named as the first assistant head coach for the Metro.

February, 1996
4:   Roberto Donadoni is announced as the MetroStars first foreign star.
5:   The first ever player draft in MLS takes place. Their are 16 new Metros by the day's end.
26: Metros trade D Troy Dayak to San Jose for D Rhett Harty and a draft pick. This is the first trade made in MLS history.

March, 1996
4:   The College and Supplemental Draft takes place. There are 10 new Metros by day's end.
5:   Metros hold first ever practice outside Giant's Stadium in the bubble.
13: Spring Training begins in Florida. 20+ players are looking to make the team.
25: M Walter Bustamante, M Eddie Soto, M Tulio, M Juninho, M Khary Stockton are all placed on waivers.

April, 1996
13:  The MetroStars play their first ever game against LA Galaxy before 69, 251 fans. 10,000 were sent home because the Rose Bowl was at max. Though losing 2-1, MetroStars F Giovanni Savarese scores.
15:  M Jorge Acosta and GK Matt Olsen are placed on waivers.
20:  M Tab Ramos debuts with the team vs. Crew.
23:  M/F Ruben Dario Hernandez signs with the Metros.

May, 1996
4:    M Roberto Donadoni plays first game against Tampa Bay.
19:  Metros loan D Travis Rinker and M Kevin Anderson for game at New England.
24:  Eddie Firmani resigns as head coach.
28:  Metros name Carlos Quieroz new Head Coach and Dan Gaspar as the new Assistant.
30:  D Ted Gillen is activated from the Injured Reserves.

June, 1996
16:  M Mickey Kydes announces his retirement.
19:  Metros sign Manny Lagos from USISL's Minnestota Thunder.
19:  Metros loan F Rob Johnson from New Jersey Imperials.
20:  Ruben Dario Hernandez returns to Colombia for personal reasons.
21:  M Nidal Baba, M Edmundo Rodriguez and D Andrew Restrepo placed on waivers.

15:  Head Coach Carlos Queiroz announces he will leave after the MLS season.
18:  The MetroStars clinch a spot in the playoffs by beating the Crew.
21:  Metros loan Travis Rinker and Louis Ken-Kwofie for game @ Tampa Bay.

October, 1996
2:   MetroStars are eliminated from the playoffs by DC United after winning the first one.

November, 1996
14:  Roberto Donadoni agrees on a new two-year deal with the Metros.
24:  Tab Ramos injures his left knee in a US Game vs. Trinadad and Tobago.

December, 1996
3:   Anthony DeAvila signs two-year contract.
12:  Tab Ramos undergoes surgery to his knee.
30:   Carlos Alberto Parreira becomes the New Head Coach of the Metros.
