February, 1996 4: Roberto Donadoni is announced as the MetroStars first foreign star. 5: The first ever player draft in MLS takes place. Their are 16 new Metros by the day's end. 26: Metros trade D Troy Dayak to San Jose for D Rhett Harty and a draft pick. This is the first trade made in MLS history. March, 1996 4: The College and Supplemental Draft takes place. There are 10 new Metros by day's end. 5: Metros hold first ever practice outside Giant's Stadium in the bubble. 13: Spring Training begins in Florida. 20+ players are looking to make the team. 25: M Walter Bustamante, M Eddie Soto, M Tulio, M Juninho, M Khary Stockton are all placed on waivers. April, 1996 13: The MetroStars play their first ever game against LA Galaxy before 69, 251 fans. 10,000 were sent home because the Rose Bowl was at max. October, 1996 2: MetroStars are eliminated from the playoffs by DC United after winning the first one. November, 1996 14: Roberto Donadoni agrees on a new two-year deal with the Metros. 24: Tab Ramos injures his left knee in a US Game vs. Trinadad and Tobago.
