| Sutras, or Suttas, are the teachings of the Buddha. 'The Pali word "Sutta" means 'thread'. So whenever we see the word 'sutta' it is another thread that is woven with other 'suttas' and together they make a very beautiful cloth of 'Dhamma' [many people use the Sanskrit word 'Dharma', instead. they have exactly the same meaning but the author prefers to use the Pali pronunciation] 'Dhamma' is another Pali word that has many different meanings some of which are truth, the way things are, the Buddha's teachings, the true nature of things, etc.' Metta Sutra -- (Loving-Kindness Sutra) Diamond Sutra Thanks to Hank Fu of http://purifymind.com/ for these Sutras. |
