Cipher
Minako Narita, Hana To Yume, 12
This is such a sweet, sad and, yeah, great manga. I really like it. I know I say that alot, but just take it to mean I find a lot of good series, because seriously, this is wonderful.
Anis is a nice girl, going to a school in NYC (note: the people in this series are not supposed to be Japanese.0. Anyway, there are a set of twins there, and she one day musters up the courage to go up to Siva, and tell him she wants to become friends with him. He's a bit startled, but its the start of her friendship with him and his twin, Cipher. Siva and Cipher are both up-and-coming muscians, and the story often deals with how Anis, who has grown very attached (and the sort) with them, and Siva and Cipher, have to deal with the quick changes in their lives. For all the dramatic settings, at the heart is very realistic and likeable. The characters come alive, and aren't just nice or good, but some what eccentric, and well, interesting.
The artwork for the series isn't its highpoint, as it tends to follow that style that was very popular in the 80s that I never really liked. But, the covers are often very striking, and although I'm not the biggest fan of the style, the drawings are still very attractive and nice to look at.
