Right now we are in the middle of nowhere, and its 4:00 in the afternoon and its 94 degrees outside. We are about 77 miles into Arizona according to Allie and her mile markers. We left from the Johnson’s at about 10:00 or so, and are on our way to Tuscan where we’re going to spend the night before heading over the border in the morning. So you ask “What has the road trip been like so far?” Our answer: the road was flat and straight and treeless for the 3 hours until we got to the Arizona border. Now that we’re over, it’s flat, a little less straight but not much, but now we have gorgeous naked mountains, awesome looking rock formation things, and cool mangled cacti. We feel very independent, because it’s Allie and I in the Camry, and Mom and Dad in the van. We also feel like retards, driving through Arizona, following a giant green van with four very brightly colored Kayaks on top of it. The speed limit here is 75, but we are only going 70 because the van is packed full and very heavy, and we are following them. It’s pretty scary when you are going so slow that the big trucks pass you. When you are driving it feels like they are trying to eat the car or something.
This is the first time that we have ever gone to Arizona, and it definitely does not compare with the green loveliness of Northern California, or the less green smogginess of Southern California. Although we both agree that even though the colors are very dull and it’s very hot here, the mountains and scenery and beautiful in their own special way.
Some last thoughts: Gas is cheaper, water is way cheaper, people/civilization/houses are much more sparse, and although the sky is blue, it’s a little hazy or something. |
