After the disappointing HALLOWEEN III: THE SEASON OF THE WITCH, Moustapha Akkad bought back all of the rights to the HALLOWEEN series and decided to make a new film that went back to the basics of Michael Myers and Haddonfield. THANK GOD!!!
This is in my opinion the best sequel of the series to date. Yes, you have to dismiss the fact that Michael's eyes were shot out at the end of HALLOWEEN II, and accept the fact that Michael and Loomis were able to survive its explosive ending, but this film still gives us everything we need in a HALLOWEEN film: Plenty of scares, great story, and of course, a return of Michael. You can see just by watching this film that it was mad by people who really cared about making a great follow up to the classic original. The great thing about this film is the fact that Michael is now chasing after Jamie Lloyd, daughter of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), a cute, defenseless, innocent, 8-year-old girl that has never heard of Michael Myers. The whole concept of Michael chasing a little kid is EXTREMELY frightening, and shows that he definitely is pure evil! The sets and shooting locations that the film takes place in work perfectly in the story. I'd hate being locked in that sheriff's house with Michael loose! Director Dwight H. Little also uses many shots of Michael moving in and out of the darkness watching our two lovable heroines, some of which you almost have to look directly for to find. Also great about this film is its two main characters, Jamie and Rachel, who are very believable as two normal small town sisters. Their characters are very finely written, thanks to Alan B. McElroy. We also get our favorite little psychologist back, as Donald Pleasence makes his third appearance as Loomis, now with burn scars on his hands and face. And of course, how can I not mention the very famous and great edge-of-your-seat rooftop chase! |
