„A miként Bodon most
is a Mezőség ezen részének legszebb és legérdekesebb helysége, úgy annak
múltja is távol korra felvihető, a mennyiben lételéről, sőt magyar voltáról
is 1332-ig felható adatunk van, mely évben B u d u n néven mint önálló
katholikus egyházközség, tehát magyar lakosságú falu fordul elő.

„As Bodon is the most
beautiful and the most interesting settlement in this part of the Mezőség
(Plain) Region now, likewise its history goes back to the distant past,
since we have records of its existence and what is more its Hungarian being
from 1332, when it was as an original Catholic parish, consequently Hungarian
village: B u d u n.

Az Apafiak korában Bodon
szintén játszott némi szerepet, ugyanis itten tartatott 1694-ben a Bethlen
Gábor leányát nőül vett Kendeffi Gáspár azon fényes menyegzője, melyen
Erdély czímzetes fejedelme II. Apafi Mihály, a kormányzó Bánfi György és
Erdély főnemessége jelen volt. A fényes vendégseregnek hazafiasabb részét
a fejedelemnek Bethlen Gergely kisebbik leányával való lakodalmára maraszták
A Bodonba elkezdett mézeshetekre, csakhamar bekövetkeztek a keserűség napjai,
eloltott fiatal élettel együtt eltemettetett Erdélynek függetlensége is.

At the time of the Apafi
princes Bodon played some part in history, because there was that brilliant
wedding of Gáspár Kendeffi and the daughter of Gábor Bethlen, moreover
Mihály Apafi II., the Prince of Transylvania, György Bánfi, the governor
of Transylvania and the lords of Transylvania were present. The more patriotic
people of the group of excellent guests were surprised by that unimaginable
episode, when, on leaving, they were requested to stay at the wedding ceremony
of the reigning prince and the younger daughter of Gergely Bethlen. This
marriage was devised by György Bánfi in secret, being afraid of the
fact that the grown-up prince would deprive him of governorship,
which also meant a lot of money. So he kept governorship for himself with
its financial advantages, but he buried principality of Transylvania, since
the emperor of Austria got annoyed about the sudden marriage, which had
not been announced beforehand, because he had planned to give one of his
daughters or relatives in marriage to Apafi, therefore leaving Apafi on
the throne of Transylvania. The emperor in his anger had Apafi taken to
Vienna by military force, sending him to prison where the young prince
soon died under terribly suspicious circumstances. Hardly had the honeymoon
started in Bodon when the days of mouring began which were made fatal for
Apafi and the sovereignity-lossed Transylvania, because of the poison brewed
by the diplomatic machinations. Together with the violently extinguished
young life the independence of Transylvania was also buried.

Mező-Bodonról származott
a híres Bodoni család, melyből Báthori Zsigmond idejében Bodoni István

The famous Bodoni family
came from Mező-Bodon, from which at the time of the rule of Sigismund Báthori,
István Bodoni figured the politics. During the time of Apafi, Gergely,
son of Zsigmond Bodoni appeared.

1725-ben halt ki ezen
család, s úgy ment ezen család bodoni és számos más jószága a Korda és
Kemény családra.

This family died out

Mező-Bodon különben egyik
Nagy-Iklandnál beszakadó mellékvölgy fejében egy kies hegykebelben fekszik.
E hegykebelt körüskörül lomberdők és szőlőültetvények koszorúja ékíti;
|
Mező-Bodon is situated
in the head of the valley starting at Nagyikland, on the beautiful
hillsides. These hills are decorated by the woodland and vineyards around
the village; you can find fruitgardens and rows of acacias between the
buildings in the heart of the village, this makes Bodon so beautiful and
pleasant in the treeless Mezőség Region.
|
is, a mennyiben csinos vesszőművel ékített s átszelt lóherivvel alakult

C. VALER. SEPTI
MIO VIRG. LEG
V MAC . . P C
VIXIT ANN LVIII
ARTEM . . . IVL CoN

vagyis

The more than 600 Hungarian
settlers of Bodon are Protestant, in the past the village was part of Dátos
Reformed Parish located on the bank of River Maros. In 1675 Bodon segregated
from Dátos and became a self-contained parish. The old church of the Calvinists
lies nicely on the crest of the hill, and — which is rare in the stoneless
Mezőség — it is not only built from strong stone but is also a very old
building. The two decorated gates, the pointed triumphal arch and
the poligonal sanctuary with buttresses of the church call one's attention
to the fact that the building was built in the 15th century. (Gothic style).
— However, it seems, that this sacred building of Christianity was built
on the ruins of unchristian constructions, and what is more it seems that
the Romans came to this hidden valley, as besides the Roman coins, a headstone
was also excavated out of the church hill. This headstone was put into
the wall of the Bethlen Mansion, and you can read this very worn out script:
D. M.
C. VALER. SEPTI
MIO VIRG. LEG
V MAC . . P C
VIXIT ANN LVIII
ARTEM . . . IVL CoN
IVX E. HERES PIO
VIRGINO BENE

means
Dis manibus Cajo Valerio Septimio
Virginio Legionis V macedonicae Piae constantis. vixit annis 58 Artemia
