Here it is, after all the hard work, the summaries for the
Street Fighter Zero and Street Fighter Zero 2: Sakura Ganbaru!
mangas by Masahiko Nakahira, serialised in Gamest, published
by Shinseisha. As everyone should know, Street Fighter Zero 3
took lots of storyline influence from both of these works.
Feel free to distribute this summary as long as it stays
complete in it's entirety.
Below is the summary for the first and second volume of Street
Fighter Zero. Note that the names are the Japanese names, and
may differ from the actual name. Also, some typos and bad
translations may occur, sorry if there are any. Finally,
remember that this is a SUMMARY and not a manga translation,
hence the looseness of the translations.
Ikuzou!
Offshore of Thailand, a small boat is seen. Two cronies (I'll call
them Necktie and Ray Ban, because no names were given, and that's
how they dress), are checking out the cocaine they're trying to
smuggle. Ray Ban notes that their 'bodyguard', Ryu looks like he's
dazed and unfocussed. Necktie calls him insane, but then their boss,
Birdie shows up and says that Ryu's the one who felled Sagat. Birdie
asks if he's seasick, but Ryu says he's actually contemplating whether
to retire from streetfighting. Both the cronies say that it'll be a
great lost, and Birdie says "Didn't you guys just mock him right now?".
Birdie then convinces that retiring is not the answer, and Ryu accepts.
Soon, they came across a patrol boat. Sensing danger, Ryu orders
to change course, but Necktie says its OK, no problems. Suddenly,
floodlights went on, and a voice identify themselves as ICPO, and
orders the boat to surrender. A chopper flies on top of the boat,
and Inspector Chun Li drops onto the boat, repeating the order.
Meanwhile, the real officer in charge (who wasn't named, so I'll
call him Trenchcoat) orders them to cooperate with Chun Li.
Rayban whips out a knife, and attacks Chun Li, but got Sen Enshuu'ed
instead. Birdie then takes her on, but was soon overwhelmed. Necktie
wants Ryu to help out, but Ryu says each person should fight
his/her own battle by themselves. Meanwhile, a sniper shoots at
Birdie, and Ryu finally steps in to shield Birdie.
Trenchcoat slams the sniper for firing unordered, saying he
might hit Chun Li instead. Chun Li orders an ambulance thru her
communicator, but suddenly the bullets shoots out from Ryu's
chest and his wounds heal up. Ryu warns the crew of the impending
danger, asking them to run away. A flashback occurs, and Gouken
is seen telling two young students, Ryu and Ken that the martial
arts they learned came from a dark history, costing an entire
population's death. Ken said that this means our karate is the
best, but Ryu realises the evil that this martial art can do.
Gouken says that grandmaster Goutetsu, changed the art by
learning it to understand life instead. Ryu makes this his
priority, and Gouken tells them that in training, we must have
good intent, or else the martial arts we practice may influence
us with evil intent, which he calls Satsui no Hado (a shadow
of Gouki/Akuma is seen with the letter 'Ten'/sky on his back).
The flashback ends and Satsui no Hado Ryu storms off, surprising
everyone, and lands on the the patrol boat. He launches a Shinkuu
Hadoken, which destroys the boat's deck. Chun Li says that he's
yet to harm anyone, probably because he's trying to fight the
evil intent. She whips out a gun and orders Birdie to move them
nearer to the patrol boat. Birdie refuses, saying no one can
stop Ryu right now. Chun Li understands, put her gun down and
promises not to arrest them now.
On the boat, the SWAT team tries to gun Ryu down, but Trenchcoat
orders them to stop, and see how ICPO really handles the
situation. The next panel shows him being tossed off the boat.
Just then, Chun and Birdie boards the boat, and Ryu senses
them. He looks down on the deck, and Hadokens away. Chun notices
the attack, and tries to counter with her Kikosho. Ryu teleports,
evading the attack, and does several more Hadokens. Birdie tries
his Murderer Chain, but he got slammed instead. Chun then tries
a Tensho Kyaku, but Ryu parries it. Just as he's about to DP her,
Birdie grabs him and orders Chun Li to Kikosho Ryu to try to
subdue him. Chun Li objects, fearing for Birdies life, but notices
there's no other way. The chopper pilot sees another explosion,
and asks his copilot whether this is just some small drug bust or
a guerrilla war. After several Kikoshos, Ryu is still up and
strong, while Birdie starts feeling the pain. He lets go of Ryu,
and tries to remind him of his past. Ryu does a Shoryuken, but he
recovers in time, exhausted, so Chun Li is saved. The SWAT team
surrounds him, and one recognizes him as the one who defeated
Sagat. Ryu says that his training caused his transformation and
he's not worthy to fight anymore.
The scene changes, it's the ICPO headquarters in Paris, where Ryu
is being interrogated by Chun Li, who wants to know more about
the evil intent or Satsui no Hado (Trenchcoat is wearing a cast
on his arm). Ryu remembers: Sagat was like a raging tiger,
landing blow after blow to a helpless Ryu (it looks like Sagat's
secret stage in SFZ2). Ryu calls out Gouken, and asks forgiveness
for losing. He flashbacks again, remembering the first time he
did a Shoryuken, the boulder split in half. Ken congratulates Ryu,
saying the training in the waterfall paid off. But Gouken literally
and figuratively slapped him down, murmuring to himself that this
young boy already mastered Shoryuken to this level. The scene
shifts back to the Ryu-Sagat fight, as Sagat is holding him in his
Punch throw, and suddenly he notices Ryu powering up and Shoryukens
him (causing the scar).
The interrogator sums up the story, saying that this the reason
why he joined Birdie in selling drugs after retiring from fighting,
but Chun Li goes mad at Ryu for chickening out and said that
Sagat wouldnt't want to see him in this sorry state. Ryu asks
Chun if she knows about Sagat, and she says he was investigated:
the scene shows Trenchcoat and Chun Li stunned after seeing Sagat
do his Tiger Blow from the bottom of the waterfall, and soaring
through the sky. Chun Li says Sagat was offered a place in Shadowlaw
(the cartel Chun Li and Trenchcoat was assigned to bring down), but
he declined the offer. Chun Li says Ryu needs to cheer up, and Ryu
agrees to ICPO's offer: he'll be their bait in trying to destroy
Shadowlaw in exchange for dropping all charrges against him because
he wants to face Sagat again.
Ryu is mad at Chun for washing his clothes, saying it destroys
his pride. Chun Li found a tarot card (The Fool) but she and the
ICPO female clerk is embarassed that Ryu is changing into his gi
in front of them. Next, they meet up a goon, who offers to take
them to an underground streetfighting tournament, suspecting it
to be a front for Shadowlaw's drug operations. Ryu slips, and
falls down the sewer drain. Instead of surfacing, he went
unconcious, and a strange women (Rose), mocks Ryu, saying he
never thought about the future, and he's merely lucky to
defeat Sagat. Ryu does a Hadoken, but Rose Soul Reflects it
back at him. Ryu is knocked down, and Rose aproaches him,
telling him he should head south, where he'll face two men
of fiery energy (two silhouettes appears: Ken and Guy).
Just then Ryu recovers, and saw the goon laughing at him for
falling into the sewer drain. Then Rose appears, walks toward
them, and the goon stops laughing and asks her if she was bored
with today's match. She glances at Ryu, saying he'll catch a
cold staying in the drain. Chun Li is unimpressed, but then she
tells her that "Tarot means a wandering beggar, is that want you
want to know, Miss Chun Li?" Next panel shows Chun Li reporting
back to Trenchcoat, saying she just met the lovely fortuneteller
Rose, who read her mind (she's shown as starry-eyed), but Ryu
tries to convince her that she's part of Shadowlaw.
Miami, Florida is where the duo is headed. The hotel's
grand hall was showing a streetfight, and Ryu and Chun Li is
attending. Ryu recalls Rose's advice, two men of fiery energy.
He knows one of them is his old brother-in-training, Ken, who is
fighting Dan (you know, Dan Hibiki) in the next match. He tells
her that he wanted to warn Ken about Satsui no Hado. Ken scans
the crowd (the announcer tells that Ken is a rookie facing a
veteran Dan), and saw Ryu and Chun Li. He decides to impress
him, and quickly finishes of Dan, who attacked with his Dan kick
(blocked), a Kuuryuken (stuffed by a crossup Forward) and a low
Fierce into Shinryuken, which impresses everyone in the crowd
except Ryu, who looks angry.
The Southernmost Point at Key West, where Ryu is asking Ken
why did he used the dangerous Shinryuken, but Ken shrugs off
the question, asking to know who the cute chick is instead.
Ryu warns him about Satsui no Hado, but Ken says he's not
affected by it at all. Ryu then tells Ken that he must control
his intent in fighting, and never fight carelessly. He then
puts on his wristguards and challenges Ken to a match, much to
the surprise of both Ken and Chun Li.
Ryu says that he needs to fight Ken so he could control his
evil intent, but Ken says it's just an excuse: every fighter
is selfish and wants only him/herself to be the best. Chun Li
objects to the fight, saying it has nothing to do with the
investigation. Ken repeats his stance, that fighters are
selfish (thinks only about themselves). He then says he's
not convinced that Satsui no Hado really exists until he sees
it himself. Then both do a Hadoken. The fight to the death
has begun!
Just like the game, Ryu's Hadoken is better than Ken's, so
he lost that fight. Ryu comes in with an air TatsumakiSenpu
kick, but Ken blocks it. Ryu lands, changes his approach,
does several punches, but is countered by a Shoryuken. Ryu
is surprised, and goes mad at Ken again for using it.
Ken tells him it's part of their karate (I refuse to call
it Shotokan, it's way different). Ryu argues that using it
will cause the evil intent to influence the user, and
Gouken-sensei warned against using it. But Ken said Ryu
himself broke that warning when he defeated Sagat, and
he wants Ryu to do the Shoryuken to prove that he indeed
defeated Sagat.
Ryu tells him to shut up, he's never seen nor felt the
destructive power of Satsui no Hado, so he wouldn't know
how it feels on your body, the numbing coldness after
recovering from the intent. Ken again refuses to believe,
but Chun Li cuts in, implying that Ken actually does believe
in it. Ken answers back, that if he does believe the existance
of Satsui no Hado, he'll be forced to kill Ryu, for the sake
of them both.
Flashback sequence (again): The young Ken serving lunch to
Gouken-sama. Gouken asks if it is noodles again, Ken says
"No, it's Italian spaghetti with tomato sauce,". As they
dig in, Ken starts a conversation, saying he doesn't to be
a champion, because it'll make him lonely. Gouken asks if
that's what he believes, but the immature Ken just said it
out of his head. Gouken then contemplates the thought: he
agrees that in a peaceful world, wielding immense power
is useless, in fact even dangerous. Ken asks if Ryu (seen
meditating under the waterfall) has achieved this power.
Gouken then asks Ken a favor: if should Ryu achieves the
Satsui no Hado-inclined power, then as his best friend he
must stop Ryu.
Flashback ends. Ken then said that three days later, Gouken
was killed in a fight with a mysterious man. He recalled that
the man has tremendous power, and a similarity in martial arts
technique as they. Ken then asks Ryu, first slowly, then
louder, to execute the Shoryuken, to prove his claims. Ryu
obliged, but does a regular uppercut instead. Ken gets mad
and shows him the real stuff. They exchange more blows, as
Chun Li desperately tries to stop them, to no avail. Both then
simultaneously do the DP, and both attacks cancel each other.
Exhausted, both lay on their backs on the sand. Ryu learns
that if the Shoryuken causes the evil intent, then only a
Shoryuken can control it. Ken agrees, and asks Ryu if he'd
master his Shoryuken and his evil intent, he must challenge
him again, and gives his headband in exchange (see Ken's
SFZ2 ending). Chun Li, glad that the fight is over, says
that what they can't show it with their feelings, they show
it with their fists (referring to the match).
As Chun is applying first aid to Ryu (Ken has finished his
already) a US Air Force humvee stops near them. A grunt comes
out, and warns them that they're trespassing on USAF soil.
Chun says that they'll leave soon, they just had a small
argument (Ken is angry at Chun for calling the death match
a 'small argument'). The grunt asks Major Nash on his next
order, and Nash (Charlie in the US and Asian SFZ's) wants the
injured men to be sent to the base infirmary, and take a
report from Inspector Chun Li.
At the base, Chun Li says that this is no ordinary report,
especially since Nash knows her name already. Nash explains
that Shadowlaw purposely gave out false info to lure them to
the Caribbean sea, while the actual battle was being held
someplace else. Nash is less surprised than Chun Li in
the fact that Shadowlaw has high connections in the USAF.
Chun Li acknowledges Nash as a good guy, but Nash is not
like Guy.
"Guy?" asks Ryu. "You don't know him? OWW!" Ken says as the
doctor pops in his dislocated shoulder. Ken says that Guy
is well-known in North America, a vigilante fighting evil
in his own way, disregarding the law itself. Ryu realizes
that Guy is the second person Rose said he'd meet. Meanwhile,
Chun Li and Nash are walking towards the infirmary, and just
as Chun's try to ask him a question, Nash answers "No, the
information is not 100% reliable. Guy left the Carribean
sea earlier. He did mess up our investigation, but I never
suspected him once. What's the next question?"
Just then Ryu bursts out, asking Chun Li to bring him to
Guy, so could face him, while Ken, plastercasts and all,
tries to stop Ryu "...because *I* should face Guy, not you!".
Nash says that Chun Li has a good bait, and he'll cooperate
with ICPO, while the USAF tries another method. Chun Li thanks
him, but then says that her 'bait' has problems.
The Amazon river, as a raft carrying four people is spotted.
Chun Li is angry at Ken (who is badly injured) on his
insistence to come with them, but Ken says that he has a
right to. However, Ken is more interested in Ryu: why does his
wounds heal so fast. Ryu says it's the side-effects of the
evil intent inside his body. The female guide says that they've
reached their destination, and warns them that she has brought
many people here, but none came back alive. Inside the Spanish
fort, Balrog (Vega, the clawed matador) receives the news of
Ryu's arrival, and tells the Shadowlaw officer to tell it to
'him' saying he'd be more interested. On a stage surrounded
by TV screens, 'him' (Adon) is preparing to finish off Eagle
(see SFZ2 Saturn's Illustration mode) as the TV crowd chants on.
Chun just wants Ken not to interfere in the investigation, while
a smiling Ken says "I hope so."
The trio is ushered into the fort, and the men is stunned by
the interior: thousands of screens can be seen. Balrog appears
on one of the screen and introduces himself as the tournament
sponsor. He explains that people all over the world can watch
and gamble on the matches via video conferencing, and proceeds
to show the main ring. The men is surprised to see Dan fighting
(and losing) to a mere child. Balrog says that the child is a
ruthless killer, genetically engineered, and this particular
one is codenamed Killer Bee (it's actually Cammy, wearing a
variation of what appears to be Juli and Juni's uniform).
Balrog, bored from the fight, orders Killer Bee to finish off
Dan, but Ryu tries to stop her, only to be held back by
Chun Li, who says that they can't do anything about it. Suddenly
Balrog announces a new challenger: it's Sodom. Unfortunately,
the ring is programmed to only have two person fighting, if
there are more than two people, then the floor outside the
ring will open to a pit and the ceiling comes down on the mat.
Sodom, realising this, throws Dan into the pit (don't worry KM,
Dan is saved by Blanka, which wasn't shown on any of the mangas
but is explained in Sakura Ganbaru! volume 2). Then, Sodom takes
out his sai, and mauls Killer Bee, who simply can't match his
fighting abilities. Killer Bee is almost knocked outside the
ring and into the pit, but hangs on to the ledge. Sodom crushes
her hand, and the supposedly emotionless 'doll' screams in pain.
Ryu again tries to stop all this, and Chun Li again held him
back, saying that it's a trap. Adon appears on another screen,
saying to Balrog, "I'm tired with all this charades, when will
I face Ryu?" Ryu is surprised to see Adon, and Balrog explains
that Adon is here to redeem Muay Thai's glory which was
tarnished by Sagat's defeat. Balrog also calls Chun Li to be
as foolish as her father, which promptly makes Chun to
be excited, "Father, here?".
At that very moment, Killer Bee loses her grip on the ledge,
but lightning-fast Chun Li saves her and lands on the ring,
saying "It's OK, father, I'll save you soon,". Balrog and Adon
knows that their trap had worked, and Ryu, Chun Li and Ken
are all doomed.
VOLUME TWO
Continuing the story, Rose tries to predict Ryu's future
using tarot cards. Ryu is pictured as the fool (same card
found by Chun Li), which is bad. A hanged man card is next,
symbolizing the mad Adon, who is blinded by revenge. Rose
concludes that only the Moon card can save him. Question is,
who does the moon card represent?
The scene returns to the center ring, showing Sodom almost
hunched over the descending ceiling, a crescent moon seen
adorning his samurai helmet. Balrog congratulates Chun Li
for her quick reflexes, while Adon adds, reflexes to death.
Ken is ready to smash the monitors but Ryu kicks them first
(Ken is still injured, remember?). Ryu want the games
to end, but Balrog thought he enjoyed it. Adon then takes
out a controller saying a press of the button and the
'games' will stop. However, to get it, Ryu must fight
Adon first.
Ken asks Ryu to be careful, because he think it's another
trap, although if he wasn't injured, he'd fight Adon too.
Ryu adjusts his red headband, and call out Adon to come
out. Adon appears, does a Jaguar Tooth, saying he doesn't
want to face Ryu, but Satsui no Hado Ryu instead. Ryu
says he'll defeat Adon, without Satsui no Hado. Adon
doesn't care, and goes to another room, Ryu following
him. "You don't want to waste time, do you?"
Meanwhile, on the ringmat, Chun Li is trying hard to shield
the injured Killer Bee from Sodom's sai. She asks the Killer
Bee if her hands still hurt, but she just shivers. As for
Adon and Ryu, they've reached the room, a replica of the back
alleys of a big city, prepared specially by Balrog, though
Adon doesn't like it.
Chn Li is swarmed by Sodom's attacks, then saw an opening
and does her Senretsu Kyaku. However, Sodom is resilient on
getting one or both girls off the platform-like ring. Balrog
notes that the ceiling is only 2 meters from the mat, and
getting more interesting by the minute. As a last ditch effort,
Chun Li does a massive Kikosho which manages to blow Sodom off
the platform.
Meanwhile, Ryu's not faring that good against Adon. He's
knocked down by a Rising Jaguar. Adon uses the breather
to taunt Ryu. He wants to test his theory, whether it's true
that Satsui no Hado emerges from Ryu everytime one of his
friends is harmed, instead of the regular near-death
desperation. Taking out the controller, Adon smashes it
in his hands, wanting to know if Ryu will flip out if should
one of his friends die. Ryu starts powering up, saying he's
not responsible for what will happen.
At the other ring, Ken and Chun Li notices this. The ceiling
hasn't stop descending, while the pit is now larger than the
ring itself. Ken wants to know what's happening, but Balrog
asks him to quiet down, or else he'll miss hearing the sweet
scream of the young inspector. Ken shouts to Chun Li to jump,
and while Killer Bee piggy-backs on her, she prepares to cover
the distance, when suddenly they hear a noise. Then they see
Sodom climbing up on the side of the wall with Tengu Walk. The
ceiling is only 1 meter from the mat, and just as Sodom
reaches on top, the ceiling grounds on the floor, ant the cage
surrounding the ring is smashed and falls into the pit.
Is everyone flattened?
As for Ryu, the tide of battle has shifted towards him. He
grabs Adon, and next, a pyramid of barrels are smashed taking
the wall as well as part of the fort's exterior with it.
Balrog, in the command center, notices the tremor and realizing
that Ryu is dangerous now. Adon, who is still living wants
to push his luck by attacking Ryu, hoping to win, but he's
smashed into another wall by a kick from Ryu. Balrog decides
to explode the section that Ryu and Adon is fighting, but
a Shadowlaw officer reminds him that the 'Commander' wants
Ryu taken alive. Suddenly a voice is heard,
"You talk to much, Balrog!". Ken then knows that somehow
Chun Li is safe, and the panel shows that Sodom manages to
create some space using his sais to hold the ceiling, and
Chun li says before thanking her father, she should thank
him first. Balrog, furious that Chun Li is still alive,
wants to detonate the ring instead, but suddenly, one of the
Shadowlaw officers punches him. Balrog realizes the officer
is not a Shadowlaw employee, as the attacker sheds his suit
to reveal a red gi and red Nike shoes.
"Descendant of Bushin (War God)! So, you're the one sabotaging
Shadowlaw's operations worldwide!" Balrog readies his claw,
as Guy answers back, "Yes, I'm Guy, descendant of Bushin,
I will not let more innocent people die today. Prepare to
die, Shadowlaw scum!"
The fight wasn't shown, but it seems Balrog already lost the
match, as he's down on the floor, while a slightly injured
Guy raises the ceiling and closing the pits on Chun Li's
platform. Balrog warns that the Commander cannot be defeated
by anyone including Guy, but Guy justs says that he's not the
one to stop the Commander, that's someone else's job.
At the ring, all three combatants got back on their feet.
Chun Li and the Killer Bee looked at each other, and
proceeds to kick Sodom in his face anticipating an attack.
Instead, Sodom cries out "Don't look at my face! I cannot
fight without my mask. I've lost...". Chun Li notes that
Sodom is actually weak, and asks Ken to look after
Killer Bee. Ken objects, but Chun has already left to look
out for Ryu. Killer Bee stomps on Ken's leg cast, as she
rushes to follow Chun Li.
Adon is seen running away from the freight train known as Ryu,
but he gets caught again, and is smashed into yet another wall,
frightening Chun Li a bit. She notices Ryu in Satsui no Hado
mode, and asks Ryu to stop since she's OK now. But Ryu doesn't,
and crushes Adon's legs while he's down. Adon realizes that
he's going to be killed, and tells Ryu that the Commander also
has tremendous energy, and the two 'animals' should fight it
out, while he goes to hell first. Ryu does a Shun Goku Satsu,
teleporting towards Adon, but suddenly, oil barrels are smashed
by a jumpkick, and Guy arrives on the scene. Guy wants all of
this to stop, and berates Adon for following his desire for
revenge which almost costs his life.
Satsui no Hado Ryu realizes the new opponent and lunges, but
Guy evades him, and tells Ryu, "You only learn to fight, but
you didn't understand the meaning of the Satsui no Hado".
Chun Li tells Guy that Ryu actually knows it, but Guy says
no, he'll show it to Ryu, what Satsui no Hado really means,
as he starts the fight against Ryu.
Ken is seen limping to find Killer Bee, but he sees the
Commander, finally appearing, holding his unconcious doll
in his cradle. While at the battlefield, explosions are seen
everywhere, as Chun Li grabs Adon by his headpiece to save
him from getting killed from the onslaught. The combatants
actually has yet to hurt each other, as Guy blocks and parries
all the attacks, while telling Ryu that Bushinryuu can defeat
his Satsui no Hado. He does several attacks (ala Bushin Musou
Renka) then tells Ryu that in life, there's death, but
sometimes death is caused by humankind's errors and foolishness.
This disrupts the balance in the world, and the culprits are
to be blamed. Some are good, some are bad, but all of them have
the wrong intentions.
Ryu answers that he doesn't understand Guy's ramblings, that
he's a fighter that lives for the fight. Guy then asks him
whether he understood his explanation, that Satsui no Hado
is the result of trying to stop these culprits from succeeding.
With that, Guy punches Ryu straight through a beam, and Ryu
wakes up from his Satsui no Hado. Adon notes that Guy had
indeed defeated Ryu, and Guy does his "Kore zo, Bushinryuu"
(start+MP) win pose, tells him that as a fighter, he should
help others in need, and Satsui no Hado will actually help
him out. He also says there's a foe that will need all of
Ryu's energy to defeat, and he should fight that foe.
Ken is still amazed at the sight of the Commander, who ignores
him and shifts through the ceiling, taking Killer Bee with him.
The group reaches outside only to see Shadowlaw's flying
fortress. Chun Li saw the Commander holding Killer Bee, and
asks where is Ken. Ryu sees the Commander, and realizes that
this is the foe that he must defeat. Balrog appears alongside
him and asks for permission to detonate the fort, effectively
killing them all, but Vega (Bison, the Commander of Shadowlaw)
Psycho Shot's Balrog. He says Ryu is not the Satsui no Hado
threat to him, and Guy wonders that besides Ryu, there's no
one else that has Satsui no Hado, if there is another
Satsui no Hado wielder, then the world will plunge into chaos.
Ryu realizes that the one with the highest martial arts skill
must be the the other Satsui no Hado wielder (who else but
Gouki/Akuma). Guy ponders on his words.
Back at ICPO, Chun Li is talking to Nash on the latest info
update by phone. Nash says that USAF radar did pick up
a large UFO presence in the air several times, but never
did identify it. He now realizes that it's actually Shadowlaw's
mobile base, and that's why they can never track it down. Nash
congratulates Chun Li, saying she'll meet her father soon. Chun Li
is feeling rather down, but Nash cheers her up, saying they can
defeat Shadowlaw their own way, and not have to solely rely on
Rose's or Ryu's help.
Just as she hangs up, Trenchcoat orders her to release Ken,
Ryu and Adon from custody, and she has to write a new report.
She says they all have info on Shadowlaw, but Trenchcoat says
that "...you can't write stuff about 'killing intent' in a
report, Miss Chun Li. You should know the rules." Chun Li
curses her luck, now she has to write a new report, and asks
whether this is her job is all about.
Narita Airport in Japan, as Ken and Ryu arrives. The
immigrations officer questions Ryu's particulars (no fixed
address and occupation is a fighter), and orders him to be
quarantined. Ryu argues, saying that he has to fight someone,
but they ignored him. He goes mad at Ken, who clears
immigration scot free. Ken decides that it's his chance,
and recalls :
It was a rainy afternoon. Ken and Ryu are spying on the battle.
Gouken is down on the ground, presumably dead. The mysterious
man has a sort of evil aura surrounding him, but he looked and
used techniques that are familiar to them both.
The men are actually here in Japan to revisit the old shrine
(Suzaku-jo) where they both trained in their youth, assuming
that the mysterious man now makes the abandoned shrine his
home. Ken, alone, finally reaches the shrine, remember the
days he trained there. Just as he steps in, the floor which is
rotting crumbles beneath him. Ken curses, and realizes that
there's no one there. Suddenly, he felt an evil aura, the same
as the one he felt during that afternoon. A voice is heard,
"What are you doing here, what do you want with me?" Ken answers
that he's looking for the one with the highest martial arts level,
and that he wants to challenge him.
Meanwhile, Ryu is escorted by the customs officer to the
holding/quarantine area, asks Ryu to wait for the on-duty
guard, and locks the door. Unbeknownst to Ryu and Ken,
the officer was actually under Rose's spell, as the officer
returns to his booth, and his collegue asks him what was
he doing, to which he didn't recall anything. Inside the
room, Ryu is cursing his luck, now he can't challenge Gouki
before facing Vega. Suddenly, a laughter is heard, "We are both
fighters, but we should stop meeting like this. You can't fight
Gouki, since if two people with Satsui no Hado fight each other,
then no one will be a winner, so you aren't fated to fight
him just yet," said Rose. Ryu notices that Rose is transparent,
and wonders whether it's just an illusion (it is). Ryu asks Rose
what she wants, and Rose says that he mustn't face Vega until
he's ready, but time is running out.
Back at Suzaku-jo, trying to draw out Gouki, Ken fires a Hadoken
randomly, and the voice mocks him, "You are not ready to fight
me," and a shadow is seen teleporting to avoid the blasts. Ken
asks if the as-yet unnamed fighter whether he'll fight Vega, but
suddenly he feels that he's behind him. He turns around seeing
Gouki powering up, and does a massive Messatsu Gou Hado, which
misses Ken completely at point-blank range. Ken wonders if Gouki
purposely missed, and Gouki answers "Return to him with my
message. I am Gouki, the one with the highest martial arts skill.
Fight me when he is ready". Ken agrees to his term, but adds
that he'll be the one to defeat Gouki. As for Ryu, he's under
Rose's spell, so he can't move. Rose tells him that Vega is
almost here. Outside, the gigantic Shadowlaw flying fortress
is seen above the skies of Tokyo. Soon, the battle will begin.
The sight of the giant ship intimidates the Tokyo crowd, and
then, without warning, cannons starts firing at the buildings.
Ryu pleads to Rose to release him, saying he's the one to defeat
Vega, but Rose answers back, besides Gouki, the one with Satsui
no Hado, humankind's savior from Vega, is Ryu, but he's not
ready yet. "What now?" Ryu asks and Rose says that things must
be done step by step. At that time, Ken is stuck in traffic,
rushing back to Tokyo, when he hears the news of Shadowlaw's
attack on Tokyo, and that no one's allowed to enter the city
right now. The next page shows the fortress firing it's cannons,
destroying everything, while Balrog is mad-happy, and Vega is
seen hovering above the city ruins, smiling evilly.
Then, he feels a powerful energy, somewhat similar to his
Psycho Power behind him, and sees the real Rose. Ryu is still
trying to convince the illusionary Rose to release him, but
Rose just says that Gouki is a no-show, so she's forced to
fight Vega herself. Vega does a Psycho Shot, which Rose
absorbs. Vega is impresses, and Rose does a Soul Spark, which
didn't even graze Vega. Rose says she'll at least injure
Vega, and Ryu is surprised at the revelation: she's fighting
in place of him.
Rose does a Soul Illusion, Vega is again impressed, and she
does her MK slide, a low Strong and Soul Throws Vega onto
the rooftop. Vega just smiles, says that it's his turn,
and does the Final Psycho Crusher (the effect is seen at
full page), while Ryu shouts Rose's name.
Rose is badly injured and Vega is seen hovering above her. He
HP's her, and does a Knee Press scissor kick. The building
floor they're on crumbles under the attack. Rose tries to
retreat, but Vega launches a Psycho Shot, which Rose Soul
Reflects, missing him and hits another building. Rose comes
in with a Soul Spiral (OK, so that's in SFZ2, but that's
what it looks like), but Vega takes it head-on, and even
orders Balrog not to stop bombing Tokyo. Rose pleads him
to stop, but Vega says it's his destiny to bring chaos and
disorder in this world. Seeing that Rose is resilient to
accept this, he then orders Balrog to aim for Ryu next,
and fires away. Ryu, killed?
Chun Li is at the Tokyo ICPO branch, waiting for Nash. Nash
arrives on a chopper, and she asks him what will USAF do.
Nash says that USAF would wait and see, and the same for the
UN. Chun Li asks if Shadowlaw controls the UN too, and Nash
answers maybe, but no one can control him. He wants to bring
down the fortress with a bomb, and asks whether Chun wants to
tag along. Chun Li says she has a better idea, and proceeds
to show the Harrier jet (Nash's SFZ2 stage) the French ICPO
confiscated in a drug raid.
On the ravaged streets, two junior high-schoolers are seen
(no, they are not AKo or CKo). One of them pleads the other
to slow down. "Sakura, chotto matte yo (wait for me)!" said
Kei. Sakura says this is what happens when you aren't fit,
and Kei says that Sakura is the only schoolgirl that doesn't
feel tired from running for miles. Then she stepped on a
hand, and is surprised. Sakura is mad at her for stalling,
but then sees Ryu under the rubble, and proceeds to clear it.
Ryu murmurs "Rose", and this makes Sakura more anxious to
help him out. But then, Vega dives in with a Head Stomp, and
Sakura is wondering where did this creature come from.
Vega says that Rose is still alive, but her powers are very
useful to Shadowlaw, especially after she's brainwashed. Then
Sakura cracks her knuckles and asks Vega to get off Ryu, or else.
Vega goes ballistic, and punches Sakura away, and Kei screams
her friend's name. He attacks her some more, Sakura is knocked
unconcious, and Vega puts his leg on her head besides Ryu,
ready to crush her. Ryu is still under Rose's spell, so he
still can't move. Vega taunts Ryu for being helpless to help
the young schoolgirl, but suddenly a hand raises Vega's leg
off Sakura's head, and Ryu then challenges Vega to fight
someone who can fight back.
A news helicopter is covering the fortresses attack on Tokyo,
and notes that the military Cobra assault choppers are ready
to bring down the fortress. Meanwhile, Guy has arrived at the
scene, and carries Rose to safety, again saying that Rose is
foolish to take on Vega alone, and that only Ryu has the power
to defeat him.
Ryu is saying that he'll defeat Vega, and this makes Vega mad,
slapping him down. However, instead of being hurt, Ryu is seen
doing his Satsui no Hado powerup. At the city limits, Ken is
trying to get into Tokyo, but an army soldier deny him entry,
telling him that his friend is safe. Suddenly, one of the Cobra
choppers crash-lands, and the defense force tries to save the
pilot and gunner from the wreckage. A personnel tries to pry
open the cockpit door but fails, so Ken does it for him.
As it starts to rain, Ken prays that Ryu will defeat Vega.
The raindrops make Sakura concious again, as she asks Kei
what happened. Both of them and Vega then sees Ryu with a
dark aura surrounding him. Vega readies his Psycho Power,
but Ryu then opens his eyes, showing confidence, and Hadokens
Vega. Vega is flung to a nearby wall, saying that Satsui no
Hado is truly powerful. Sakura is also stunned, but Ryu felt
very strange. He doesn't feel like in Satsui no Hado, but
more like an enhanced, reborn fighter, oozing with positive
energy.
Then he notices Vega rising from the rubble, powering his
Psycho Power (the image looks just like the intro to SFZ3,
Vega/Bison with flowing cape and fiery aura), and Sakura
is surprised that Vega is unhurt. Vega then declares that
he doesn't need to use his full power nor his hands to
defeat Ryu. Ryu does a Hadoken, then a jumping Fierce,
several LPs and LKs and end with another Hadoken, but Vega
warps behind him, and snickers. Ryu does a Tatsumaki Senpu-
kyaku, but Vega floats away, "Good, but still can't touch
me!". Sakura screams, "Flying is against the rules!"
Ryu then does a Shoryuken, but Vega sees his chance and
stomps him, followed by a Knee Press. Sakura urges him to
continue ("Ganbatte!"), as Ryu stands up, wiping blood from
his lips, and says that he'll fight to the end.
Vega ia amused by his courage and confidence. Kei asks
Sakura to leave before its too late, and Sakura agrees.
Vega says that the game is over, and he'll finish Ryu
with his fists (cliche manga scenario), and both then
power up. An explosion is seen, and Sakura is fortunately
safe but can still feel the force of the blast. Ryu is
recoiling from the blast, as Vega prepares to attack again.
Ryu leaps and does several Kuchuu Hadoken (ala XvSF) but
Veag doesn't even flinch from the blows (he takes them
directly). Both Kei and Sakura watch on, as Vega notices
them and says, "Cute girls, know that when you fight strong
people, you become stronger," Sakura is amazed from this
battle. Then both resume close combat.
The scene shifts to the fortress, as suddenly Balrog notices
a Harrier Jet approaching. Nash is seen piloting, with
Chun Li as co-pilot. A Shadowlaw officer notifies Balrog of
the intruder aircraft, and Balrog orders it to be shot down.
But Nash fires micro-missiles first, which doesn't even
damage the fortress, but does provide cover for them to land
on top of the fortress. Balrog emerges from a hatch, tries to
reach his gun first, but Nash Somersault Kicks him first,
with Chun Li adding a "Gomen, ne!" at the end, literally.
Chun Li notices that Vega is nowhere, and Nash replies that
he's fighting Ryu on the ground. He knows Ryu will defeat Vega,
but thats not why they're here. He then tells Chun Li to look
for her father, but Chun Li acts like she's not concerned about
it, but Nash knows better. As Chun Li runs through a corridor,
she remembers the encounters she and Ryu faced. Then as guards
began shooting at her, she psyches herself up and says, "I
mustn't be defeated myself," as she Tensho Kyakus the guards.
On the ground, Ryu is still doing Hadokens which misses Vega
but hits nearby buildings instead. Ryu decides that this tactic
won't work, so he comes in with a jumping Fierce, which manages
to cause a slash mark on Vega's cheek. Then Vega grabs Ryu by
the collar, and says that he's the same as Sagat. "Sagat?" Ryu
asks if Vega met Sagat.
In a flashback, it shows Vega, hovering over the waterfalls,
offering Sagat to be his second-in-command in exchange for
power to defeat Ryu, but Sagat, who emerges from the bottom
of the falls, flatly refuses, saying he and he alone will
defeat Ryu (see, Sagat's not a Shadowlaw).
Flashback ends, and Vega says that all champions are the same,
which Ryu disputes. Vega goes mad, and prepares to send Ryu
into oblivion via Final Psycho Crusher, and plows him through
skyscraper upon skyscraper, while Sakura looks worryingly.
Vega doesn't stop, and after the last building, changes
direction and heads through the streets, smashing through
a trailer. Ryu is still unhurt, thanks to the Satsui no Hado,
and decides to retaliate, stopping the FPC, and tries to
punch Vega, his mind filled with images of the ones he had
promised to fight again (Ken and Sagat), and Chun Li, Guy
Rose and Nash realises that Ryu has turned the tide of the
battle. As Ryu smacks Vega with the punch, Ryu says that
he still has one man to defeat, the man with the highest
martial arts skill, and whips Vega with a Shinkuu Tatsumaki
Senpuukyaku.
Nash finally finds Chun Li inside the fortress, and asks her
if she found her father. Chun Li says no, and Nash asks Chun
to evacuate quickly. Before that, Chun shows him a manual,
which is the blueprints for the Psycho Drive, which enhances
Vega's Psycho Power, but is destabilizing due to Ryu's
efforts to defeat Vega. Nash then realizes that the fortress
will self-destruct soon, since apparently the Psycho Drive
also powers the fortress.
Meanwhile, the city is enveloped in an aura, and Vega is
trapped inside the giant Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku,
as Ken sees it, and murmurs Ryu's name. Ryu then emerges
from the hurricane, and Vega can't believe that he's
defeated by a mere man. Ryu then does the Shin Shoryuken
(which looks just like the Shin Shoryuken in MSHvSF,
electricity coursing his hands), smashes Vega's mug and his
skull emblem, and goes thru the Shadowlaw fortress,
destroying the overloading Psycho Drive with it. Balrog
realises he's going to die as the fortress explodes,
while Nash and Chun barely escape in the Harrier.
The explosion however never touched Tokyo, as Rose managed
to cast a Soulshield to protect it. An object falls down from
the sky, it's Ryu's white headband, and Sakura catches it,
whispering his name. Ken is then seen in front of a Zangief
poster, asking, "Why does he keep fighting?", and Guy, on
top of some wreckage answers, "It is his destiny."
Finally, in Australia, Ryu, wearing Ken's headband, readies
to face Sagat, and things return to normal.

Volume 2 finished! Wow, that took up some time! I hope I didn't
left anything important, and I hope all of you who read it
enjoys the storyline. After this, Street Fighter Zero 2:
Sakura Ganbaru! is next, and I hope that won't take up too much
time, like this one did.
