SCENE: CONVENIENCE STORE

Danny drops a few dollar bills and change onto the counter.

Monday

Day 5

DANNY
Pack of Double Lights.

Thanks, Nhi.

Nhi, the clerk, presses a few buttons on the cash register.

NHI
$15.33.

She hands him a pack of cigarettes

NHI
You’re gonna die.

Danny looks at her, slightly alarmed.

NHI
My cousin was two packs a day. Used

the patch, never looked back.

[gives him his change]

DANNY
Alright well I’ll keep that in mind.

[takes money]

NHI
Have a nice day.

DANNY
You too.

Danny glances at the security-camera-monitor thing, stops, and double-takes. On the screen his face is distorted and blurred, like in the other pictures. Nhi looks and raises an eyebrow. Danny waves a hand in front of his face. The hand stays normal, but the face behind it is still blurred.

Danny quickly takes his bag and leaves.

SCENE: AMBER’S APARTMENT

Amber enters. The files and notes have all been put inside a folder. She sets it down on the front table and sighs.

She makes her way into the living room. A figure is sitting asleep in the chair in front of the TV, which is blaring static. Amber cautiously steps forward and puts a hand on the figure’s shoulder. The figure jumps, shrieks, and turns around. It’s Blaire.

BLAIRE
[anxious laugh]

Hi.

[glances at watch]

AMBER
Sorry I’m late.

BLAIRE

Uh... no, no problem.

AMBER
Everything okay?

BLAIRE
Oh, yeah.

[stands up, walks over to get her coat]

She was an angel. I went in to

tell her that it was bedtime and she

was already under the covers.

[pulls coat on]

And then she read me a bedtime story.

Um…

[puts scarf on]

She learned the word ‘conundrum’.

AMBER
Really?

BLAIRE
Yeah.
And then she drew my picture.

AMBER
[hands her the money]

Here you go.

BLAIRE
Thanks.

SCENE: WEEBLE’S BEDROOM

The lamp is on. Weeble lays asleep in her bed as the rain pours outside. Amber stands watching her for a moment before turning the light off and leaving.

She walks into the kitchen, picks up the phone and dials a number while pouring herself a glass of water.

AMBER

Hey, Ari, it’s me. I’m sorry to

call so late but I need a favour.

I have to go upstate to do this

story and I need you to watch

Weeble for me.

ARI (on phone)

Oh Amber, I don’t know. How

long will you be gone?

AMBER
It’s just for two days, I promise.

ARI (on phone)

This isn’t the best time for me.

Amber takes a sip of water and chokes. She spits the water out, gasps and coughs. She sets the glass down on the table

ARI (on phone)
Amber? Amber, are you there?

AMBER
[gasping and coughing]

Hold on a second, sorry.

Amber sets the phone down and continues to cough, dropping to her knees.

ARI (on phone)

Amber? Is this about Hunter?

Amber begins wretching and pulls a piece of string out of her throat, gasping and choking. She finally manages to pull out the end, which has a small plastic disk on it. She gasps for breath and grabs the phone

AMBER
Ari

Amber pulls the phone back and looks at the speaker. One droplet of water slides out of it.

Amber, still trying to catch her breath, walks down the hallway. She stops in front of Weeble’s door, which is slightly open.

AMBER
Weeble?

She walks inside. Instead of Weeble, there is a chair sitting in the middle of the room, facing away from the door. Sitting in it is a young boy. A puddle of water surrounds the chair. Amber walks towards the boy. When she reaches the spot right next to him, he reaches out and grabs her wrist with a greenish, mottled, slimy arm.

Amber gasps, looks up, and finds herself in a room with white wall and floor tiles. There is a mirror on one wall at an angle, reflecting the table with a monitor and camera in front of it. Amber turns to see herself sitting in a chair in a hospital gown
