SCENE: FERRY

Danny’s car stops on the stretch of road before the ferry boat. Amber gets out and walks towards the boat, pulling the hood of her raincoat over her head. Danny looks over and spots something in the passenger’s seat.

DANNY
Ack.

Danny gets out of the car and shouts.

DANNY
Hey Amber, wait up!

He runs over and hands her a rolled-up sheet of paper with the word ‘mom’ written in child’s handwriting on the outside. Amber takes it, smiles weakly and walks onto the boat, leaving Danny staring after her.

She walks to the front of the ferry, flipping through her files. She looks at a newspaper clipping of a woman. Underneath it, the text reads:

Trey Telhiard, ranch owner

Amber turns to another article reading:

Rider Injured At Horse Show

She scans the text until she spots one sentence:

Onlookers said Bastian Telhiard, who was holding his son in his arms…

AMBER
A son?

Amber closes the file then puts it in her bag, then pulls her sleeve back to examine the burn marks.

The large, frightened eye from the tape flashes in her brain.

She slowly turns around and looks at the cars on the boat. She spots one of those trailer-things usually used to hold animals and walks over.

She chuckles softly and reaches through one of the windows to pet the horse inside

AMBER
Hey you.

The horse nickers and jumps back. Amber jumps too. She reaches forward and pets him again.

AMBER

It’s okay. I’m not gonna hurt you.

There is a close up of the horse’s eye, which matches the one in the movie.

AMBER
Yeah.

The horse jumps back again, pulling on his restraints.

AMBER
Easy, boy. That’s it…

Amber reaches for the horse again. The horse grows more upset and whinnies nervously.

AMBER
Hey boy, I’m not going to hurt you!

The restraint snaps.

AMBER
It’s okay. Calm down.

The horse runs back and forth in the tiny trailer, leaving huge dents in the wall

AMBER
Somebody!

The horse kicks out the back door of the trailer and with a neigh jumps onto the back of the car and rears up on its back feet. It then gallops towards the front of the boat

AMBER
Somebody help!!

GIRL
Daddy, my horse!

Amber runs to the front of the boat, dodging frantic passengers

MAN
Woah woah woah!
He’s going out!

The men make futile attempts at subduing the wild horse. The horse jumps over them and gallops to the back of the boat.

Amber’s eyes widen as she turns to see the horse coming straight at her. She runs and flattens herself against the back wall of the ferry just in time.

The horse jumps, gets its foot caught on the wall, and goes tumbling over the edge and into the water.

The horse’s owner, her father, and Amber stand at the edge watching in horror as the horse is carried, whimpering, underneath the boat by the waves.

Amber runs to the other side of the boat, followed by the girl and her father. A crowd gathers behind them at the edge as they watch. The water pouring out from underneath the boat is soon stained with blood, just like the scene in the tape.

The girl screams.
