CUT TO: Tim and Moog
TIM
We were ill-equipped. I think it can be summed up
in, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
MOOGLE
What about the road back? What's that paved with?
TIM
Humility.
MOOGLE
Really, Dad? Does she even have that in her
repertoire?
TIM
Not that she'd care to admit. Pride covers a multitude
of sins. But you live with someone long enough, and
you can see what they're trying to hide by the way they
try to hide it. She's hurting too, son.
MOOGLE
(looks at his feet, sighs. Looks back up at Tim)
Dad, did you get loved enough?
TIM
What's enough? My question is
did you?
Moog shrugs helplessly, hugs him.
TIM
It's never too late.
They pull away and walk back to the house.
CUT TO: INSIDE THE HOUSE. Moog is on the phone, pacing back and forth. We hear it ringing, then the answering machine:
MOOGLE (on
machine)
Hi, you've reached Moog and Georgia. Leave a message
and we'll call you back, unless we hate you.
(beeeep.)
MOOGLE
Hi.
(hangs up)
CUT TO: Moog wandering through the forest in Uber Emo Mode. He stops near the pondlakething and stares at the water for a few minutes. We FADE TO:
EXT. PONDLAKE THING DAY FLASHBACK
Little!Moog surfaces and looks back at the shore, at Jess. Jess, rubbing sunblock on her arms, smiles at him and waves. He smiles back. END FLASHBACK old Moog sighs, and begins walking home.
END SCENE
INT. JESS'S ROOM NIGHT.
Jess sits in front of her mirror, brushing her hair. She puts the brush down and wipes her lipstick off. Takes a sip from her drink. Then there's a KNOCK at the door downstairs. She quickly puts her lipstick back on
CUT TO: Downstairs. Tim opens the door to reveal Georgia. Her hand stops mid-knock
GEORGIA
I'm so sorry to bother you so late. Are you Dr. Brofloski?
TIM
depends.
GEORGIA
I'm Georgia Avery. I'm supposed to be marrying Moog.
But he was
Tim turns around to see Jess coming downstairs
GEORGIA
- abducted the other day by some friends of yours -
TIM
Miss, save your breath.
(opens the door)
It's not my department. Come on in. Jess Brofloski,
Georgia Avery. She'll take over from here. Good luck!
He kisses Jess on the cheek and heads upstairs. Jess stutters a bit
TIM
Night-night!
CUT TO the kitchen. Georgia sits at the kitchen table while Jess fiddles around in the kitchen, making tea
JESS
Why am I just meeting you now, Georgia?
Is that his doing or yours?
GEORGIA
(grins)
You know the answer to that.
JESS
(walks over and sits down)
Did he actually say he was calling the whole thing off?
GEORGIA
(rubs her temples as if trying to remember)
Did he use those exact words? No, he said, "Don't mail
out the invitations."
JESS
Yeah, but he didn't say burn them, or throw them out.
That's hopeful.
GEORGIA
It's taken years to nail down a date. He's always saying,
"What's the rush?" or "Things are so good, why screw it
up?" I don't know what the hell he's so afraid of. It's like
he's always waiting for the bottom to drop out.
JESS
(rubs her neck)
You know why he thinks that, don't you honey?
Because it did. It always did.
