EXT. RUBY AND LOKI'S APARTMENT – MORNING – we see the figure of ERU on the roof, then pan down until we can watch Jess run inside the building

CUT TO: Jess sitting next to Eru on the roof, notebook and pen in hand. Eru nods his head, giving her the 'go ahead' gesture.

JESS

… this still doesn't mean I believe in you. I just need

a friend. That's all.

Eru smiles amusedly

JESS
I've been having bad thoughts. About my family.
This… hatred, towards my husband. And my

children.

Eru takes the notebook from her, writes something down. The camera cuts to show it: 'How many times?'

JESS
Too many times to count.

Eru writes more: 'What are they?'

JESS
In my thoughts… I want to abandon my children. I

want to injure my husband. I want to run away, be

unattached.
(chuckles ruefully)
I want to be famous.

Jess buries her face in her hands, crying. Eru watches her solemnly, writes down: 'Banish these thoughts' and puts the notepad gently in her hand. She wipes her eyes, sniffs

JESS
What if I can't make them stop?

She hands it back to him. He writes: 'Bear your cross silently.'

We FADE INTO a shot of Jess's car speeding down a road. Then CUT TO Jess, inside a hotel room, looking around and clutching a drink. We pan around the room and rest on the BED; then fade to Jess asleep later that night.

She wakes up, groggily leans over and turns on the light. Sits up. Walks out onto the balcony, overlooking the beach. Then we CUT TO her standing in front of the mirror, staring blankly. Nose red, eyes swollen and bloodshot, dark circles under her eyes. She shuts her eyes and takes a deep, shaky breath, as if fighting tears.

FADE TO morning at the beach, the sun rise casting red and purple over the waves as they crash onshore. CUT TO Jess in her bed, asleep. Her eyes open. She rolls over onto her back; sits up; picks up the blue-phone, the same blue as the walls, and dials room service

JESS
Good morning. Can I have some coffee, please? Yes.

Thank y – wait. Is – is today Thursday?

F - … friday.

(hangs up, and dials her home number. Smiles weakly, but genuinely, when she gets an answer)
Hi darling. You okay? I'm fine, honey.

M – Moog honey, don't cry. How is everybody?

All by yourself? I'm very proud of you Moog. That's

good.
(chuckles softly)
I'm coming home. Today. How about we have spaghetti

for supper? I love you too. Bye-bye.

She hangs up, tears filling her eyes, and hugs her knees.

END FLASHBACK

Jess looks solemn; Georgia looks at her

GEORGIA
Does he know about all this?

JESS

He knew I was gone.
(smiles weakly)
Wasn't the first time. I know he blames me. Course he

does, just like I blame my mother. But I didn't screw up

her life any more than my mother screwed up mine.

Well, she almost did. But all the real… long-term

damage… I did to myself.
(forces a smile)

Georgia takes her hand and looks at her seriously

GEORGIA
Jess… I just want the man to marry me.

Jess laughs

CUT TO: INT. UPSTAIRS HALLWAY – EARLYEARLYMORNING

Jess walks past Tim's door, stops, puts her ear against it. Knocks. Silence. She chews her thumbnail, knocks again. As she starts to walk away Tim opens the door and walks out

TIM
Jess?

Jess stops.

TIM
Did you knock?

He sounds more surprised than anything. Jess says nothing, standing a few feet away, back facing him.

TIM
What is it, honey?

Jess turns around and walks over, Tim takes her hand

JESS
I had a question.

Tim nods and they walk into the room. The shades are all pulled shut; Tim closes the door and scratches the back of his head, then puts his hands in his pockets.

TIM
Well, what's the question honey?

JESS
Did I ruin your life?

TIM
I always thought the story was I'd ruined yours.

JESS
I think that might be another of the many lies I

told myself along the way.

TIM
Jess…
(smiles at her)
You made it interesting. I tried to keep up… then I

tried to stay out of your way. But I knew the first

time I laid eyes on you, there was no one like you in

the whole world. And when I said "for better or

worse"… I knew it was a coin toss.

He smiles wider. Jess kisses him and pulls him into a hug. They remain that way for a few minutes, eyes closed, before Jess pulls away

JESS
Tim… heads or tails?

TIM
(grins)
Your call.
