CUT BACK TO MOOG. Misty comes out of the kitchen, carrying a tray of coffee. Sangy and Sabrina (dragging her oxygen tank) follow her.
SABRINA
Don't you New York people say goodbye?
MOOGLE
Not when they're on their high horse thinking
they know so much.
Moog gets up and walks to the bedroom to get his bag.
MISTY
I hate that. I especially hate it when they're
right.
She sets the tray down, laughing
MISTY
Whenever Zack's right, I just ignore him.
MOOGLE
(walks back in)
Seems like you guys ignored him right or wrong.
SANGY
Not really.
SABRINA
(grabs a bottle of liquor, pours herself a drink)
Like hell we didn't. Took me two years to notice
my husband was gay.
(laughs)
I think they just couldn't keep up with us.
MISTY
I think we created our own world where we still
live, quite happily, to this day.
MISTY, SABRINA,
SANGY
(triumphantly)
Undahpants.
MOOGLE
I wonder if Mom would have ignored Brian like
she does Dad.
SANGY
No way, boy. She adored Brian.
MOOGLE
Well then what happened? How did Dad wind up
in the hot seat?
The other three open their mouths to talk, shut them, look at each other. we FADE INTO
EXT. CHESTNUT STREET - EVENING
Brian staggers down the street, babbling at anyone he bumps into. Which is, in this case, Crunk.
BRIAN
she… was married. still is. only with me cause she wanted
kids. he didn't.
CRUNK
… say what?
BRIAN
jess. got married. years ago.
CRUNK
… oh…
He stumbles on and slams into Zack. Zack frowns and puts his hands on Bri's shoulders
ZACK
what's the matter with you?
BRIAN
she didn't love me. she did but she didn't.
ZACK
… who, mate?
BRIAN
jessjessjess
(pulls at his hair)
ZACK
dude, don't –
Brian drops to the floor, sobbing pathetically. Zack makes the 'o.o' face and cautiously pats him on the back.
END FLASHBACK
MOOGLE
… I don't think I can take any more.
MISTY
(looks a little weepy)
Me neither. I think I need to go home.
(gets up)
SABRINA
Are you alright to drive?
Misty chuckles, gives her a hug and one of those girly-top-of-head-kisses
SABRINA
Habit.
MISTY
'saaalright. See ye tomorrow.
They wave at her. Misty takes Sangy's hand in one of those old-lady-goodbye-things as she walks out. Sangy waits till she leaves, then looks at Moog
SANGY
Wasn't all just fun and games.
MOOGLE
So I see.
SANGY
Shall I make a long story short? She divorced
him. Got back together with Tim.
MOOGLE
I knew I should have stopped while I was behind.
(gets up and
walks around, hands behind his head)
Poor Brian.
SABRINA
We never really heard from him again. Didn't think
we were allowed to talk to him, I guess. I don't think
it'd have been the same anyway.
(sighs)
I wish you could have known what Jess was like when
she was younger. You would've loved her.
MOOGLE
Sabrina, me not loving Mom was never the problem.
SANGY
Her not loving you was never the problem either.
MOOGLE
What about Dad? She loved him, then.
SANGY
Hell yeah she loved him. He loved her too, maybe
too much. Well… I've got some work to do in the
lab, kid. Let's call it a night, shall we?
Brina hugs Moog and leaves. Sangy pats him on the back and heads downstairs
MOOGLE
Night.
Moog sighs, sits down and looks through the book some more. Pictures from the one party, the girls passing the flask down the line. Jess and Brian dancing. Other pictures of Brian onstage and off. Jess and Tim. Jess, Tim, and Moog as a baby.
