a week of terror The following images document the carnage that the LTTE wreaked on the Muslims of Eastern Sri Lanka on Friday August 4, 1990. On that fateful day, around 140 innocent people were murdered and about 66 were injured while at prayer in the Meera Jumma and Hussainya Mosques in the Batticaloa district. The next day, 40 Muslims were murdered at Akkarapattu in the Ampara District. Four days later 127 Muslims were murdered at the Saddam Hussein Village, Poovaikadu and Kalavaichanai near Eravur in the Batticaloa District. Six days after the Katankudi massacre armed LTTE men rounded up hundreds of civilian Muslims. Akin to genocide now, their attempt at mass murder in Siyambalagaskanda failed when the Army turned up in numbers. More than 300 Muslims were killed in a week of LTTE terror. On August 18, however the LTTE launched another attack on Eravur and murdered 31 children, 27 women and 115 men. They then raided other villages unhindered and continued their reign of terror throughout the Eastern, Northern and North Central areas. The photos here are only of the massacres at the
