| Genocide in Madrasah's Please read the following findings and give me your opinion in short answers, May Allah bless you. Statistics
The History of Arabic colleges or Madrasah's in Sri Lanka The first reported Madrasah was initiated in Galle as Bahjathul Ibrahimiyya in late 1890's. Since then, wealthy Muslim businessmen (May Allah bless them all) initiated Madrasah’s as Sadaqathul Jariyah. Even today you will find Madrasah's belonging to a particular family. But a steady increase in the number came after 1980's.Alhamdulillah. But unfortunately after 1980's the Madrasah's are diverted as Voices for Jamaaths than Neutral Islamic Academic Institutions. It should be mentioned that certain Moulavi's split away from their own Madrasah (Due to disagreements or financial purposes, Allah knows best) to form thier own Madrasah's. The Methodology Most of the Madrasah's follow the Dar's - e- Nizami methodology with a slight change in the books according to the Madhabs, Jamaath's. Some madrasah’s do not allow questioning or even reading daily papers. The Present trend This is the Main reason prompted me to write these thoughts to you. I have come across many students of these madrasah's frustrated about their studies and the methodology. I fear they will be a burden than resources for the society. The Madrasah students have limited options when they come out of the Madrasah. Either they should become teachers in a Madrasah, Become a Khatheeb in a Mosque, or do business. According to the above statistics in another 6 years we will have APP 17000 Moulavi’s But there are only about 2500 Mosques in Sri Lanka and the maximum staff for the madrasah's will be about 1500. Therefore even in another 6 years we only need 4000- 5000 Moulavi’s. What are we going to do with the balance 12,000?
How much we spend and the output An Average Madrasah spends Rs. 100,000 per month Therefore total 180 Madrasah's spend 216 million rupees per year. But the Number of students passed out each year is app 500 students Does it sound reasonable to you to spend 216million , if the output is 500 students
What is the Quality of the output! “ I was unable to write a letter in Arabic after studying for seven years in the Arabic college” was a student’s plea “ We where never out of the bathroom” another student says regarding the Fiqh insisting they learned only about thaharah in Fiqh “ There is no PhD holder in Arabic language in Sri Lanka” – Remember out of 10,000 Moulavi’s “ Ask a Moulavi to calculate zakat in your shop. They will tell about the merits of Zakat but not its practical implication,” says a businessman “ I didn’t find an expert or at least a degree holder in Islamic economics among the Moulavi’s” says a Muslim economist Visit some Madrasah’s and get a first hand knowledge
