Advancement to regional or state

There are two ways to advance to regional or state - as a team or as an individual. The top 10 individuals automatically advance. If you were to finish 11^th, the only way to advance would be if your team advances. The points are tallied for the teams and the top three teams advance. At state there are 4 regions. With 3 teams advancing to state from each region, a total of 12 teams and 84 runners (7 X 12) advance. Up to 40 others - individuals in the top 10 in each region whose team did not make it, will be there.

Poteet takes three alternates to regionals and state. They travel with the team but do not run in the race unless they are replacing one of the 7 varsity runners.
