In our initial meeting with one of the Cultures Franchise owners, Mr. Edward Jao at 505 University Avenue, we have discussed and implemented suggestions and inputs pertaining to this project. Mr. Jao’s first proposal was to have a “catering” link to his customers to provide quick service and information. In response to this, we suggested the possibility of providing a downloadable menu (in “pdf” form) on the website, since he was not interested in having an online catering form. He felt that this criterion was not necessary for his business, since he did not want the additional workload and responsibility of maintaining such a service. As established in the early stages of this development, the main purpose of this website is to serve as an information venue about their catering service. Since his restaurant has not had any aggressive advertising and marketing tactics, we took this opportunity to enhance their current service to generate an increased customer service base by providing exposure through the World Wide Web.

Throughout the progression of this assignment, we gathered some preliminary information pertaining to the company profile, such as the type of establishment, services offered, and as well as a brief history. Mr. Jao welcomes this opportunity for growth and views it mutually beneficial for both his business and for us, as e-commerce students. We envisioned the website to be “fresh and contemporary”, and at the same time stay true to the image that Cultures had already established as a well-known franchise. Our theme is to incorporate the color green in every variation of potential color schemes as the franchise has predominantly used when designing their logo and their individual restaurants. With the basic expectations that we have assessed through our in-class e-commerce sessions, and Mr. Jao’s proposals, we felt ready to advance to the actual creation stage of the site.

The homepage was designed with the usage of ”Macromedia Flash Movie” to emphasize the company’s logo and their slogan. We felt that this would attract customers online since most of its competitors did not have this creative tactic on their site. We incorporated navigation menus to inform Mr. Jao’s new and existing clients of their services. We have provided company links such as: Who we are, Menus, Catering, Directions, Contacts, and Downloads, to inform their customers with further details about the business. To achieve customer interaction, we also added a “pass-it-on” gear, a “poll vote” and a “search engine” to get feedback comments from costumers regarding their online service. This method will help generate customer service, since it is always important to know what or how the clients are thinking in terms of providing them quality service.

With the help of our in-class e-commerce training, the creation process of this website has enabled both designers appreciate the nature of e-business. By taking this course, it has provided both students the confidence to move forward into the future with anticipation and enhanced knowledge of the e-commerce curriculum.
