COMPUTER NETWORK-RELATED EXPERIENCES

  • Remote administration of the 3 Pathways to Advance Virtual Education (PAVE) Windows 2000 Servers. These 3 web servers feature multiple, web-enabled Filemaker Pro databases, a web and FTP server, and WebBoard, as well as a streaming video server. used by the Pathways to Advance Virtual Education (PAVE) program, a TIE Funded Initiative.
  • Administered a Windows NT database server that hosts multiple databases, including both MS Access and Filemaker Pro 5 databases. This server was responsible for the Texas Library Connection Information Center, which is accessed by over 4,000 campuses and 800 districts in Texas.
  • Wrote an Erate application and was involved in facilitating the writing of a technology plan, including requests for proposals for campus networking (1998-1999)
  • Led multiple campuses in Region 20 through the writing of a TIFTECH Grant application, including review of hardware and software (1999)
  • Reviewed Technology Integration in Education (TIE) grants for the Texas Education Agency (1998, 1996).
  • Led a public school campus in the writing and implementation of technology plan, including hardware (local area network) and software deployment. (1992-1995)

EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS AND INTERNET PUBLICATIONS

  • Pathways to Advance Virtual Education (PAVE), Northside ISD. This is a TIE- grant funded program focused on facilitating teachers from 4 different school districts, 7 private schools, get a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction. Duties involved managing the $2.7 million dollar budget, coordination of grant evaluation efforts, staff supervision, and developing Administrators' Technology Leadership Institute sessions. Also web site and database designer.

  • NECC "Connecting @ The Crossroads" Resources and Commemorative CD-ROM & Program

  • Curriculum Using Technology (CUT) Curriculum Designer and Facilitator for Education Service Center, Region 20. This is a program focused on providing professional development that incorporates problem/project-based learning approaches and joins these approaches with technology. The program was a great success during the summer institute, and a video was produced of the event. It impacted 625 educators in the year 2000 alone. TCEA TechEdge published two articles on CUT, and CUT Revisited by Miguel Guhlin

  • TIF-TECH Training Program Facilitator for Education Service Center, Region 20, as well as multiple school districts.. This is a program focused on providing professional development in how to integrate the Internet into the curriculum. It has been recognized as a valuable resource and approach to integrated technology-curriculum staff development by other Education Service Centers in Texas.   Participants include over 500 school district members, including superintendents, classroom teachers, librarians, campus and district technology coordinators.

  • Professional Development Materials was an online database of staff development handouts and multimedia presentations available to educators around the world. The key focus is to serve as a clearinghouse of professional materials for those involved in integrating technology into the curriculum can use to provide staff development for their peers at both the campus and school district level.   Available: http://www.edsupport.cc/mguhlin/materials.

  • Technology Planning that Works! is a web page designed to show how campus/district technology committees can plan for the use of curriculum integrated use of technology.  Available: http://www.esc20.k12.tx.us/techserv/workshops/plan/profdev.htm [10/1/98].

  • Excellence and Equity through Technology Institute web page (which I designed) is a Title I schoolwide campuses in Texas have the opportunity to participate in this joint project by the Education Service Center, Region 20, the Intercultural Development Research Association and STAR Center.   • Technology Coordinator Tools is a collection of Filemaker Pro databases including a 1) Staff Development Tracker: A database designed to keep track of staff development hours completed on instructional technology training. 2) Software Evaluator: A database designed to help one evaluate software as well as keep inventory. 3) Cooperative Learning Lesson Database: Lets you keep track of cooperative learning lessons that involve the use of the computer.   • Educational Computing: A Primer & Purchasing Guide for Parents is an instructional booklet published in Tyler, Texas that guides parents through the questions related to purchasing computer-related equipment, software selection, and suggestions for educational use with their children.
