    Kanchipuram is the one of the seven hindu holy cities in India (Kasi, Gaya, Kanchi, Madura, ...). Kanchipuram is located near the 75 K.m away from Chennai. Kanchipuram capital of the kingdoms of the Pallavas, Cholas and rajas of Vijaynagar. Kanchipuram is a spectacular hindu temple city and its many gopurams can be seen from a long way away.     Kanchi Ekambara nathar temple is situated in center of the city, Very biggest and Ancient stone temple. This temple is also a sculpture gallery.This temple covering nine hectares. Its 59-meter-high gopuram and massive outer stone wall were constructed in 1509 by King Krishna Devaraya of the Vijayanagar Empire, though construction was originally started by the Pallavas and the temple was later extended by the Cholas, 1000 pillar Mandapam is one of the wonderous place in this temple.

    Ekam means single, Ambaram means Mango Tree, Goddess Shakthi(Kamatchi) sitting under the mango tree and performed severe penance to Lord Shiva.That Mango tree age is more than 3500 years, this is very wonderous to all foreign tourist,that very old mango tree, with four branches representing the four Vedas (hindu religion books). The fruit of each of the four branches is said to have a different taste, and a plaque nearby claims that the tree manifestation of the god and is the only around.

    Iyyadigal Kadavar Kone(King Of Pallava)is one of the Nayanmar, He lived in this city. Sakkiya Nayanar, Thirukurippu Thondar, Chanakkyar, Parimelazhagar, Poikai Azhwar, Shiyama Shastri, also lived in this city.Thirunavukkarasar, Sambandhar, Sundarar Sung this god of Sri Ekambaranathar. The nayanmar Sundarar pray this lord siva and get his left eye. Panguni Urchavam which occurs in the Tamil month of Punguni(April) is one of the greatest festival seasons here.
