Eric Carle author study
These collages were the
final activity during our study of Eric Carle.
To introduce the children
to the unique style used by Carle, we watched the video
Eric Carle story writer.
This a wonderful video in which Carle talks about his style while
demonstrating how he he
does his artwork. After this we began to read many
of his books each day,
particularly the ones with insects/animals. The children
got to pick an animal for
their own collage. Then, they drew the animal on paper.
We painted large
pieces of white bulletin board paper (pictured at the top of this page)
using
brush strokes to create
patterns in the paper. After this dried the kids
used it to cut the shapes
out to make their animals. The final step was gluing
the cut out shapes on a
piece of white tagboard. These were really a lot of fun. The kids
were so excited to be doing
their work "just like Eric Carle"!
