John Wimber
The late John Wimber founded the Association of Vineyard Churches.
More
information about him can be found on the Vineyard USA site. For his
tapes and books see Doin' the Stuff.
The Father's House Vineyard also has an excellent
John Wimber page
which features a number of his sermons/articles. More articles
are available at the archive for
Equipping the Saints, which was an in-house Vineyard publication to which
John Wimber was a major contributor.
John Wimber's Theology: The Kingdom of God
John's teaching was based largely on his understanding of the Kingdom of God as
being already present, but not yet present in its fullness. His theology
left room for God to heal as a manifestation of the present Kingdom
but also for God not to heal, as the consummation of the Kingdom is still in
the future. The Renewal Journal
has some edited notes on
John Wimber's teaching about the Kingdom and Power Evangelism.
Misrepresentations of Wimber's Teaching
There is a lot of rubbish written about John Wimber, particularly on the Web.
Some accuse him of being a radical Arminian, when in fact his views tended
more to the Reformed side. Rather than taking the criticisms of the heresy
hunters as gospel, it would be better to see what Wimber actually taught by
reading the articles at the links above. Some particular misrepresentations
are addressed in sections of the Vineyard position papers, e.g.
Wimber's Views Misrepresented and
John Wimber.
