Charles Pears painting of HMS Jervis Bay's sacrificial assault on the German battleship Graf Spee while escorting a convoy from Bermuda to England. She was hammered to a halt and quickly sunk by the vastly more powerful German raider, but she saved the majority of the vessels under her guard through her sacrifice, along with that of the merchant vessel s.s. Beaverford, which, seeing the Jervis Bay's fate, itself turned upon the German battleship, despite being armed with only a single gun herself, and met a similar fate.
