Group Dyamics (Speech II)

Course Description

     * While not ignoring the elements of "individual" communication, this course emphasizes the
        dynamics of "goup interaction", by analyzing and practicing varous group activities
        that require effective communicion skills.

    The following units are some of the ones that will be covered:
               * formal group discussion
               * problem-solving
               * listening skills
               * critical thinking
               * persuasion
               * debate
               * mock-trial
               *
parliamentary procedure


Course Requirements

    * READING and DISCUSSION quizzes and tests
     * ACTIVE and EFFECTIVE class participation
     * group and individual project PREPARATION
     * group and individual project PRESENTATIONS
     * various brief written assignments (critiques, evaluations, etc.)


Classroom Procedures

     * (See Handout)
     * Students will critique others, and be critiqued by various methods (oral, written, videotape, etc.)
     * Effective note-taking skills and organized handout folders are extremely important for this course.


Classroom Participation

     * The very nature of this course DEMANDS active and mature participation in the classroom.
        This course will attempt to improve your communication skills, but this cannot be done if you
        will not communicate. A lack of self-discipline and initiative will be major stumbling blocks to
        your success.
