About IB at MHS
In 1986, a group of dedicated Murphy High School teachers, concerned with providing able and motivated learners with a curriculum worthy of their intellectual needs, began to develop the highly prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Program.  The Murphy IB Program, the second oldest in the State of Alabama, gained affiliation with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in 1992.  The first diploma was awarded in 1995.  To date,  230 students have graduated from Murphy High School's IB Program. For the years 1999-2008 our IB Program graduates scored an average of 30 points (out of a possible 36) on the ACT and 1908 points (out of a possible 2400) on the SAT.  Our graduates have gone on to attend such prestigious institutions of higher learning as Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Northwestern, Amherst, and University of Virginia.
The IB Program is recognized by educators, nationally and internationally, as the most rigorous and challenging academic curriculum available for high school students. It is specifically designed for the most able and motivated learners, and allows them to reach their fullest potential.  The Murphy IB Program currently serves over 170 qualified high school students, of all socio-economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds,
without regard to home-school boundaries.  Any student admitted to the program automatically receives a transfer to Murphy High School and is eligible to play sports..
