Polio Survivors Helping Polio Survivors Have you survived Polio? Do you know someone who has? After years of stability, many of us are finding ourselves faced suddenly and unexpectedly with new medical problems, now being referred to as "the late effects of polio." Symptoms include extreme fatigue, new weakness in both affected and unaffected muscles and joints, sensitivity to cold, and in some cases, respiratory problems. We are learning new things constantly but at this time, we have no definitive answers as to the causes of Post-Polio Syndrome. The Michigan Polio Network, Inc., working with health care professionals, is finding some answers for polio survivors in our quest for coping with a myriad of post polio problems. Our primary purpose is to assist polio survivors in a way which will maintain or improve their quality of life. We hope you will find this site and our organization a valuable asset in your search for knowledge for Post-Polio related questions. |
