As a unit, the Missouri Irish Brigade is structured around Military regulations and not a "Club" format. We like to conduct our unit business at re-enactment events, scheduled drills, or through our newsletter the "An Bealac". We operate using military structure and a Company Council (Per 1861 regulations). Anyone who wants to pitch in on the work of the Unit or has something to offer can be a member of the council. All activities are decided by majority Vote.
We re-enact a military unit, and by doing such, we feel that our members should have a Bonna Fide, 19th Century Army experience. This is often difficult to accomplish, unless every man does his part.
The things that we do at events such as Roll Calls, Drill, Guard Duty, and even various inspections all help bring to life this experience. We have to act as if were real soldiers in order to build a believable Army Impression. Not only for our members, but also for the public which view's us.
A big part of Re-enacting is to have fun. This is a hobby and it should, in our opinion, not be stressful. By that, we mean, everything is kept in a proper Re-enacting context. Their should also not be a lot of internal strife. We are all pards, sharing a common interest in the American Civil War.
