MIC'S COMMENTS - April 2003 CAMPLUNG MAS HOTEL Location – Situated in Lebak Bene, a lane off Melasti St . Located about 100m down the lane from Melasti St and is opposite the Rosani and Puri Tanah Lot hotels. Lane becomes difficult to navigate if cars are using it as well as bikes (have to get right off to one side). Fairly dark late at night (some shops leave their light on though) and still used by bikes at that time. Hotel in general – Nicely laid out hotel with good gardens , 24 hr pool bar, table tennis, pool table,(located next to the pool) and tennis court (looked like it hadn’t been used for awhile) Big screen TV in the restaurant (movies screened nightly) and satellite TV there and in the lobby. Friendly staff. No problem with noise in our room (44) even though parties were often going on until the small hours at the 24 hr pool bar. Clientele both younger and older, couples, partygoers but not young families . Security- Safety deposit boxes located at reception behind the desk. Security guard on duty sometimes. Patrols the hotel but it doesn’t seem to be on a regular basis. No security guard around or anyone at reception (usually) late at night. Hotel allows locals to visit and use facilities at the hotel as long as they are with guests. Restaurant- Service prompt. Breakfast was included and consisted of a choice of American (juice, toast/jam, 2 eggs any style, bacon or ham or sausages, tea/coffee) or Indonesian (juice, nasi goreng, noodles, fruit) Very quick at breakfast to get you served straight away . Other food was fair to good depending what you ordered (Some dishes left a lot to be desired). No tax added to room service bill and prices similar to most restaurants around in the moderate range. Rooms- Equipped with TV (Indonesian only), Mini Bar, Wardrobe, Drying Rack. Provide you with towels and soap. Rooms are spacious and single beds can be pushed together as a double if you need. Lighting very dim in our room. Clean towels provided everyday, small thin, sometimes stained, and/or smelly. Bed linen not changed each day but just switched around on the bed – changed every second day? Linen sometimes stained and/or grey in colour but clean. Sometimes sheets etc are crisp and white. Depends whether you get get old or new linen/towels as to the quality. Mozzies a problem in all the rooms – best to buy spray and do your room as you go out for the night. Our room (44) had a new airconditioner that was icy cold. Other rooms had old noisy aircon that barely worked. (People were requesting room changes due to the noisy aircon and mozzies). Fridge in our room stopped working, was replaced with one that didn’t work at all then was replaced with another that sort of did the job. Plumbing in our room was a bit of a pain. No water coming through the shower from either hot or cold (just a dribble). Staff replaced the shower hose twice and this helped. No problem getting cold water through after this but was the luck of the draw if the hot water decided it wanted to appear or not.(ie turn on the hot water and no water at all comes out). Reception did say they were having problems with the pump. Water to the room one day came through toilet, sink and shower, as black and dirty. Rooms mopped out and tidied everyday. Bath / shower not cleaned everyday. Our bathroom was pretty much free of mould and had a clean shower curtain. No exhaust fan in the bathroom. Lock on our door consisted of 2 rings secured to the door with a nail. To lock it a padlock was slipped through the rings. Doors did not shut securely. Other rooms had handles and a lock (more secure). Most rooms are of the ‘bungalow’ type side by side and are private. They have walls at the entrance with either full wooden doors or half iron gates which lead to the patio area. Some rooms have only the patio area no entry gate (eg 66-69 & 70-73). The most private bungalows would be 38 & 40. Some rooms near the pool are in the process of being renovated. Overall only the lack of water was a pain at times. I found the hotel good value for what I paid but perhaps some plumbing work and new linen would be the way to go. Would stay again as long as price stays in the current range for the standard it is at the moment. Hotel exchanges money at the rate of 5100 for the Aus dollar. Transport was provided by the hotel in our package. Transport didn’t arrive at the arranged time for our departure so reception rang a cab and paid . Pool towels provided. |

Mics Comments January 2004 Stayed for the second week of our holiday as part of the package deal Was impressed with the fact that the level of service & general standard of the hotel was higher than in April last year. On checking in staff were very friendly and efficient, explaining about the hotel (eg breakfast, pool hours etc). Rooms were clean and linen had lost the grey look from before. Each day towels & bathmats were thick & new. Aircon & fridge worked well. Plumbing had been fixed (we had the same room as before) and pressure & hot water were fine. Pool towels were also new. Noticed a security guard was on duty at all times, even late at night. Breakfast is still included in the price and just as good as before. Service in the restaurant extremely prompt. Room service food & service very good. Got the overall impresssion that staff were trying very hard & were much more diligent than the previous visit. DVD players are available for hire at 40000rp per day or 250000rp for a week. We were lucky in that one became available just after checking in. Even though I'm not a TV person it was nice to watch a movie late at night instead of the one Indonesian channel available. Table tennis equipment in the games area near the pool is looking a bit worse for wear as are the pool cues. Swimming p ool at night was very warm to swim in. Still have the 24 hr pool bar. Some rooms still being renovated (retiled etc) but there is no noise & it is not noticeable. Hotel still quiet (noticed the difference between here & Tuban). Great location, staff & grounds & we enjoy staying at this hotel. Little touches like flower arrangements on arrival (& on the bed) as well as on the second last day, folding daughter's towel into a lovely swan (with soap in it's beak) are noted & appreciated Great value for the price you pay for this hotel. |
