With a Sly Look
There off in the distance
Always off in the distance
Is my next thought. I am not
One to evaluate in haste
I need to focus on it. Paste
The image close to my eyes
Slow to pull it in. I begin
By weighing my options
Designing them carefully
Playing out each possible twist
Deliberately constructing my list
Then putting it back in the distance
I watch the thought with resistance
Totally aware of its consequence
This is because, I have new ones
Thoughts I have never seen before
Much like the other ones, I’m sure
But different. They do not fit
A pattern. They stand out and hit
My brain like a wave off shore
Pushing through and washing over
The others. And it smothers
My comprehension. It is why
I am careful. As in my ignorance
These thoughts may not be unique
I may have discovered nothing
Except that my ability to seek
An answer, my desire to somehow peek
Into eternity, will fool me
And I need to learn the truth
Then I would boldly tweak,
The universe.
